Why not get an 1917 Enfield action and send it to Ed Hubel for chambering his .585 Hubel Express? I shoot a 1150 grain (that's a 2.62 ounce cast bullet) traveling at 2200 FPS getting nearly 8 and a half foot tons of muzzle energy, that's about two foot tons more muzzle energy than the famed .50 cal BMG round, and sufficient to stop an angry Studebaker or a unfriendly Blue Whale, making the Winchester round look like a 22 short. A lot less work and cost as He will do the heavy lifting chambering and metal work for about a grand, you do the sights, wood and magazine if you want 3 shots yourself. I use mine to cartwheel pigs running downhill in Pahala, my record is catapulting one 10 feet in the air.

[QUOTE=lar45;5081306]What action are you going to build on?
I was going to suggest the 1887. The Norinco forged replicas are hell for stout. I think White Labs proofed them at 45k in 12ga.
I have a 20" smoothbore with sights on it. I have a rifled blank that I'd like to put on, but I have too many projects going already...

The rear sight is a custom scratch made by Tim Malcomb of MBT Custom.

I do like what Ed has done! I sold a.577 Tyrannosaur a few years ago and decided that was my last venture into the INSANITY version of my hobby (basically realized that the only time it came out of the safe was when I had buddies over and would hand that to them if they started bragging on their Weatherby or RUM's). This project is more out of reverence to a gun store owner that would let a young boy hang out and listen to stories while his grandfather was either getting his hair cut or purchasing powder or bullets. That cartridge board is branded into my memory.
