Need a recomendation for .30 M1 carbine cast bullet out of WW2 carbine.

In my 1944 Inland I use Accurate 31-100T with 7.5 grains of Autocomp

No GC needed.

I have two Lyman molds for my Inland - the 311359 and 311576. Both give fine performance (function and accuracy) with 2400 and H110. There's plenty of info here on castboolits if you do a little digging.

I use the Lyman 311359 and AA9, shoots very accurately.

I use either the 115 gr Lee gas checked bullet or the Lyman 130 gr plain base. Both work well in my carbines. I have 7 of them so I do a lot of reloading for them.

After many years of trying different molds in the Carbine I finally settled on the NOE 311-121-RN-GC.
I used 296 for years until I bought 8# of WC820 surplus used for Ball loads in the M1.
13 gr. of WC820 for 1800fps a load more accurate than FMJ ball ammo.

I vote for the LEE 120gr. I powder coat them and have zero feeding issues.For the cost of FMJ bolts I can not see myself ever going back to them

I use NOE 315-118 SWC, NOE 311008, Arsenal 315008 and Lee 311-93. I powder coated with Smokes clear and size them all to .311.
Most are plain based and work great. The Arsenal is 2gc/3pb so some get checked, but plain work excellent.
I have used 2400 but started useing Lil’Gun a few yrs ago and have stuck with it.

Outposts boolit looks pretty nice, I may “need” another mold after all...lol.

Depends on what kind of shooting your buddy wants to do with the M1 Carbine. If he just wants to shoot it (blast, plink, or whatever) at short range (100 yards and under) then there is already good advise posted. However, if he wants to be able to shoot with the sights regulated to the ranges on the rear sight out to 300 yards with the accuracy potential of at least jacketed ammunition with a cast bullet then a GC bullet of 100 - 120 gr loaded over H110, 296 or AA #9 will best suit that purpose.

I've been shooting numerous M1/M2 carbines with such a load for many years. It is more accurate and effective to 300 yards than is milsurp ammunition and most commercial ammunition. I favor the 311359 cast of COWW + 2% tin (or a 95/2.5/2.5 equivalent alloy), sized at .309, lubed with a 50/50 lube, GC'd with Hornady's and loaded over 13.5 gr of H110. The bullets run 118 gr fully dressed and the velocity out of an M1 carbine runs 1870 - 1890 fps. Zeroed 2-3" high at 100 yards with the rear set on "1.5" the hits to aim with the appropriate range settings to 300 yards.
