    I also downed a buck and a doe with my CVA hunter. My load was the lee 340g, powder coated to .459, over I think 35 gr 3031 and .5 gr Dacron. Buck was a double lung shot and went about 40 yards with a good blood trail, the doe was DRT. I love my hunter in 45-70 hope they don't outlaw it for deer next year.

    Congrats! I can't wait for 2021 deer season already, I will be using the venerable 45-70 with cast as well for the first time.

    WC870. All i can say, it "just works". I have had it for 3 season's now pulled the trigger 5 times with 4 deer on the ground

    Wow fine deer, and I do understand. A 45-70 will give you a good whupping if you ain't careful. Killed my first deer with an 1895 Marlin without a recoil pad and shooting store bought ammo. This was back in 1990 or so.

    Looking though load manuals I would guess 1500 FPS or so. I could have been definite if I did not put a (big o'l hole) in my chrony

    Nicely done.
    I've never understood why some folks max load a 45/70 for deer.
    Your success verifies that easy loads with a big daylight transfer factor do the job nicely.
