Remington 513t at the range today

The 513t was the third rifle shot today. Distance 50 yards, Águila 60 gr. Super Sniper subsonic. 10 shots. The last one was the flyer. All on me, of course.

Nice grouping. Makes me want to get my Winchester 69A out again.

That is the best accuracy that I have seen from the 60 gr SS ammo. Nice!

You need a long barrel to stabilize this round. I wonder how the CZ rifles with 24" and 28" barrels do with it?

I'm just curious, what does barrel length do to stabilize this bullet?

I have a 513T, with a traditional Fecker scope. With CCI SV ammo, mine shoots 1/2" at 50 yards, all day long. Never tried anything else, as the CCI ammo shoots so well. With that long barrel, the report of the rifle is little more than just a thud. The 513T, and the Winchester 75, the 513T's contemporary, are birds of a feather. Well made rifles of yesteryear. I am fortunate to have both.

I would think the long barrel would be a detriment with those heavy bullets. In the 22RF, maximum velocity is achieved in a 16 to 18" barrel. Anything more, actually slows the velocity down, due to the extra friction. As the velocity slows inside the barrel, the rotation speed does also, hurting stability.

    I'd be happy with that.

    From Águila website:

FOR WHEN ACCURACY MATTERS MOST. Featuring a 60-grain lead bullet on a short case, the cartridge has the same overall dimensions and energy equivalent to a standard 22 long rifle round. The faster barrel twist of the projectile ensures accuracy for target shooting and small-game hunting without excessive noise. Recommended for use in barrels longer than 20″.

How does the projectile deliver a faster barrel twist? The twist rate of the barrel itself should determine that, no matter what the projectile is.

I don’t know why the longer barrel works better. My Beretta 70s pistol feeds it just fine but many of the bullets keyhole at 7 yards. My Ruger 77/22 does okay at 25 yards but is terrible at 50 with some keyholing evident on the paper targets.

I understand the faster twist. I dont understand the longer barrel.

Maybe the recommendation of longer barrel to to make sure its subsonic

Perhaps they are using a slower powder in this round that can use the longer barrel.?

I have a couple of 513t's. One set up with a scope. I shot Federal Lightening and Winchester Wildcat when it was 50 cents a box. Shooting flies at 50 and 75 yards with a Redfield 20x scope was a blast. I have a rare adjustable aperture Redfield rear sight. Mine like 40 grain.

Wish I still had mine. Was the most accurate 22 I ever owned. Stolen in Susanville CA in 1976. Had a Ray Lietshert 20x scope. The previous owner had tweaked the trigger till it would go off just by swatting the stock even with the safety engaged.
