    45-110 Brass

I got a Christmas gift from wife. Order the Shiloh Quigley 45-110 that I have been looking at for years. Only problem is, I will not get a gun that I can not get ammo or brass for. Anyone out there have any advice where to go? I know that the 45-70 is more readily available, but the 110 is what I want.

    Thanks for any info

Rusty, welcome aboard. I have a Shiloh Long Range Express, in 45-110. I shoot the Lyman Postell greaser. You can post a WTB in the swapping and selling forum for supplies. You need 30 days and 30 posts to sell, but I believe you can buy right away. You’re in the right place.

Not sure if he has any left but "69daytona" had some for sale here just before Christmas.

You have 18-24 months to get what you want, you have until the rifle goes into production to decide what you want. You get to change your mind a lot if you decide something different. It will take some perseverance on your part to chase down what you will need ,the brass exists at various places at various times. You can always use Rocky Mountain Cartridge and buy 20 at time or more ,expensive no matter the cartridge but treated right will last forever.

You might want to call Buffalo Arms and see when they are going to do another run of the stretched 45 2.6 brass, and get your name on the list for 2 or 300 of them if you're planning to shoot any matches with it. If just using it for a hunting rifle or occasional plinking, Randy's suggestion to get Kody and Tom at Rocky Mountain to build you 40 of them is a good one.

Do know RMC has a 2-3 month lead time for their brass.

Most places have it on back order, but Dixie Gun Works shows some in stock.

That brass at Cabela's was Norma, it's not clear whether Norma has dropped the 45 brass or not, and Starline does not make 2 7/8 brass.

If you have any plans to fire a lot of shots at any one time (like a rifle match), the military style stock and buttplate of the “official” Quigley model with the 2-7/8” chamber will point up any recoil sensitivity you might have pretty quickly. If the aim is just fun shooting or plinking, it ought to be no more than exhilarating. Serious long range match shooters use that chambering, but generally in heavy rifles with shotgun buttstocks.

But if you really want a real Quigley rifle, you ought to be able to find cases by the time the rifle arrives. Keep checking the suppliers; call them and if possible get put on a list, monitor the selling sections of the shooting websites, check out gun shows and ask around at black powder cartridge shoots.

Starline and Norma both make it. Most of the serious LR guys swear by the Norma but consider the Starline more than acceptable, especially when annealed. Grab both whenever you see them,
