Finally a goal I have been working on for neary 50 years comes to fruition!

Last Weekend on Ebay I found a really nice box for my Lyman Cutts Choke Tubes. Best one I'd seen in a long time of casual looking.

My Ithaca M37 (1940) which I bought from a friend, after getting out of the USAF in 1973 for $100 . It came with a Cutts Compensator and a Modified Choke Tube and was my first and only shotgun for the next 20 years. I completely refurbished it a few years ago with a trip to Ithaca for rebluing and a couple of internal parts, and new Fajen Wood (1976) that we modded to English Style similar to the 28 ga Ithaca M37's they now are selling.

Over the years I managed to piece together a complete set of Choke Tubes form Gun Shows and Shops,,, XX Full, X Full, Full, Modified, Improved Cylinder and Spreader,,, and the Wrench! Only thing missing was the box to house them.

Done! and after a little clean up and Elbow Grease I ended up with what I think is the nicest Vintage Cutts Box I have seen.

I was hoping that it would fit into the Motor Case with the gun but it was just a bit too tight and so it will end up in the Shotgun Accessory Bag that goes on all shotgun related trips IE: Clays and Hunting.

The gun is a joy to handle and shoot and is the slickest running pump gun I have ever handled. It will probably be the last shotgun I sell,, Someday? Now this Set is complete.

Outstanding, a complete set and beautiful to boot! I have never been a shotgun guy but much to my regret I passed on a really nice 20 ga several years ago.

Very nice Randy. I let a very nice Cutts M37 go about ten years ago and i’m still kicking myself,,,,,.

    Absolutely gorgeous stock set!

Thanks for the instructions I will print them out and put them in my Shotgun Binder.

I also have a barrel for an A5 with a Cutts Compensator as well. Something that came along with another gun that went thru along the way.

Love the Ithaca 37, you don't see them with the straight stock very often.

Very nice! I had a M37 decades ago but clearly the stock and I were NOT made for each other. Rather than modify anything I just sold it. What a shame, I wanted it to work for me so badly.

Yeah guys, I sat on this project for literally decades until I knew exactly what I wanted. I bought the wood for this gun in 1976 and would have fitted it back then had I known how to do it. The gun sat in the safe for a long time until i pulled it out when I had some money.

I talked to Zak Amert from Ithaca at the SHOT Show a few years ago and he told me that they could reblue it just like original. It needed a new trigger and one other small part and that was all. The trigger wasn't mechanically bad, the gold plating had worn off. It was also confirmed as 1940 Mfg. Date.

Me and a friend did the wood, I did the rough work and I must say the Checkering he did was superb, he does work on high end shotguns and I'd seen lots of his work so I was confident he could pull it off. The checkering pattern is Winchester M12. I had smeared some oil on the wood when I got it and was pleased with the grain so I knew it would look good when done.

Finding that box on Christmas Day was my Christmas Gift to myself. I spent about 2 hours cleaning it up and polishing the brass piece parts, and now all the Cutts Tubes have a real home instead of being wrapped up in an oily paper towel in the bottom of the case.

All my nice shotguns live in Hard Cases because there is no possibility of Safe Rash in a hard case, and it is a controlled environment, because all of them have big bags of desiccant in them, as well as all the Accessories for that Gun. Also they live in the house where all guns should live.

Anyway,,, That's the History of that gun and I hope you all enjoyed the story.

Randy, I have often thought of and meant to say, I grew up loving Ojai. A Boy Scout in the 1970s, I hiked/camped all over SB and Ventura Counties, many others as well. Taking a drive up 33 to head for the hills always meant a good trip. Mom and Dad are still in Lompoc, (I was born there) but did my Scouting from Goleta. Pretty country, even had friends who lived way back, near Sheideck, pretty much off of the grid. We built houses near and in Ojai, got a kick out of the 6 M. Dollar man being there, HaHa.

Great places deserve recognition. Sespe Gorge was also a great hike, not far from Ojai. Tough slog, worth the effort. Santa Paula was never our jump off, we went in from the other end. Heck, I broke a brand new pack-frame going through, caught so many German Browns we should have gotten fat, didn't because the terrain burned all we earned. I listen to a HAM operator from your neck often. Fond memories.
    Common sense Gun Safety . . .

    Is taught at the Range!
