    Sight Removal

Guys, I can't remember which way the front and rear sights on a Marlin 39 are removed and replaced. With the muzzle pointing away from me do I drive the sights out left to right? Replacing with lyman 17A globe and williams receiver sights w/target knobs. This on a like new 1897 "COWBOY" Santa left. This outfit to be used in NRA Smallbore Cowboy Rifle Silhouette shooting and is legal to use in the pistol cartridge rifle event also.

    Poorboy:

ALMOST all dovetails drive out from left to right, looking down the barrel from the breech. A major exception is the magazine tube rings on Winchesters, which are a ROTARY dovetail; stick a close-fitting bar, drill shank, or whatever (DON'T use the magazine tube!) in them and rotate 90* either way. If you try to drive them out, you'll have one helluva mess!
