Finally shot a deer with my Marlin 336 and our 200 grain HP group buy!

I used 50/50 alloy plus 2% pewter. It had a BC of 10.4 and was PC’d and GC’d. I had it loaded with 40 grains of varget with a velocity of 2100 FPS. It was a little destructive but slammed my deer on the ground like it was hit with Thor’s hammer! I took out both lungs. I am still hunting and will make sure to aim farther back to save the shoulders and see if I get the same drop in its tracks reaction. I was impressed to sat the least. My goal was to use an alloy and speed to drop a deer where it stands. I realize it was only one deer so I will be trying to find a few more test subjects during our anterless only and holiday hunts. It was only 11 yards away when I shot it. The doe was actually right under my stand and I had to wait till it walked away a little so I could get more of a broadside shot. I would say the exit in the Hyde was maybe nickel sized if I had to guess. I shattered the leg and shoulder which the fragments grenaded through the deer. I only found one little piece of lead in my gut pile about half the size of a BB. The shoulder on entry was trashed and I probably could have salvaged the meat on the opposite shoulder. My goal was to drop a deer on the spot with cast and if meat was lost I wasn’t worried. Goal met! I will be poking through ribs in and out only next go aground and see if I get the same drop in its tracks reaction. All I can say is i am impressed with the little 35 Rem cast hollow point!

The extry shoulder is in the bottom. The opposite shoulder on top. My boolit exited through the meat on the top leg.

That looks like a .270 Winchester impact on deer at about 25 yards!!! That is an explosive hit.

    I agree with Thumbcocker, "Wow!"

Always thought the .35 Remington was an underrated and top-notch deer and black beer killer after using a T/C super-14, 35 Remington and a Marlin lever-action .35 Remington. I have also used the .35 Remington on wild hogs and it puts them down nicely.

Wow...! I have only had 3 deer move when I have shot them... and they were shot with a factory 6.5 grendel, they ran about 75 yards.. every cast bullet I have shot at a deer was a bang flop. I shoot high shoulder though..... my best was a M1 Garand with the Lee 309-200 that was impressive!!

Good morning and Congratulations ! That hole would put a12 gauge slug to task !! Nice looking table fare.
Looks to me you do not need a hollow point.

Wow, impressive....the deer took about everything that had to offer at that range....!

Oooh, that looks like you hit it with a bazooka. I, too, would fall straight down if shot like that. I venture to guess some will, and some will not, fall flat hit through the lungs only. But those that run won't be going far.

Also, will we get an updated range report on the 44 mag with softer alloy this season? Looking forward to your next installment, no matter how it comes in.

I might pull the 44 mag and softer alloy HP cast load out for the holiday hunt which runs from Christmas to Jan 1st. I was after two different monster bucks I had on camera all bow and gun season. I saw the buck I had in my top three opening day and also on 2nd day of gun season but couldn’t get a clean shot at him both times as he ran past through the brush so I let him go. I could have blinked both times and he was seen and gone. Figured I didn’t want to wound or educate him. I was hoping he would stay on my property and not run to far. Well, the neighbors dog ran under me twice on Tuesday...for the countless time over the years. If I didn’t like dogs i would have buried it. I texted the owner and had a long conversation with him that this will be the last time his dog is on my property. Anyways...now anterless season is on so it’s meat time!

Larry, I’ll have to measure the HP cavity. It was the round pin that came with our Group buy. It’s an MP mold that came with both penta and round HP pins. I used the round pin. I bought the gun from a buddy who picked it up from a pawn shop in Goodyear for a $150. I gave him $200 bucks for it a year later. Needless to say he wants it back now.lol.

Here is a BB I sat on one for hole diameter comparison. I’ll take pin measurements when I get my mold out. I casted some up in 16:1 pewter and pure mix with a BH of 7.8. Glad I stuck with a harder boolit. I’m sure softer at the same speed would have made a bigger hole?

Last day of anterless hunting was today so I should have a chance to measure the HP cavity tomorrow.

    nice deer!!!!

it looks like you shot it with a 270 win and 130gr nosler bt!!! not that i know about it!!!!

i think your better off with a fn. this year i used a husky m46 in 9.3x57 with a 275gr wfn gc(lyman #2 and a smidge of tin/15+/- bhn) and i think it goes 1700-1800+/-fps(didn't use my chrono). i shot a doe earlier and it was drt too. i shot her behind the shoulder and it exited the same way. both of the lungs were wrecked and the entrance wound was about bigger than the boolit(.368") and the exit wound was 1 1/2"+/- dia.

btw, the doe was about 40-45 yards away. my brother gutted her and she dressed out at 132lbs.

Thank you for taking the time to take those great pics and post them !
We’ve talked about this boolit great to see in in the field real world results!
With that boolit your handy little 35 rem is ballistically the same as the 35 Whalen 2100 FPS looks to be the sweet spot !

I measured with my cheap HF micrometer. The depth was .2" inches. Im sure i didn't get to the bottom because of the point taper. The start of the HP diameter is .17" inches.

    Congratulations!

That works quite splendid. With a load like that you could hit guts & still have no tracking.

HOLY COW...THAT'S AWESOME. Some sweet looking Boolits there too. Nice job. Looks like a great stand location too. Good hunting and good eating too.
