Bingo! It's a Lee hand primer. It's a neat little tool. Vernon Speer liked it enough to mention it in Speer #9.

Oh and there is a list with the shell holders that I have some place. Still Available in flea Bay last time my looked. The shell holders have a letter designations that corresponds with specific calibers. Too late tonight but if anybody’s interested send me a PM and I’ll see if I can dig it up

    Awesome, thanks for the information.
Since it sounds like parts are available and this seems well liked I'm going to clean this one up and see if I can get it functioning again. I appreciate the help.

The original Lee model before they figured out we wanted a shaker tray appended to it. The good thing about it is that it would pack easily in a portable loading kit. A friend made a "camping trip" case for a Lee loader and a small brass hammer and this primer seater, and a separate case for primers, powder and boolits. As far as I know, he never loaded any ammo in camp. I never could see the utility of it and just packed a couple boxes of ammo, but to each his own.

The first Lee Model before Lee ruined it by adding those clumsy trays! I have professed my love for them on this site many times and at last count own about 8-10 of them... I don’t plan to ever be without.
If the shell holder is labeled “F” it will fit the whole 30-06 family of case heads as well as 45 ACP. if you want to use it with any other cartridge head size that uses a large primer, you simply unscrew and replace the shell holder. If you want to prime a small primer cartridge, you will also need to change the priming stem. It’s a good idea to periodically apply a tiny bit of grease on the bottom of the primer stem to retard wear due to friction. The big thing to remember is that you need “screw type” shell holders that are unique to this tool. Unfortunately Lee discontinued them over 30 years ago... fortunately, they made a ton of them!

I hope you’ll try yours... you may really like it. I’m going to try to attach a picture that may help.

Well a wire wheel got me through enough gunk to see my shell holder is a K. It is soaking in a coffee cup full of 30 weight for now. Next week I will see if I can restore it to functional. I already have an hour invested in the cleaning process just to make sure you could tell what it was in the pictures I posted.

K shellholders are useful too. They work with 44 Spl/Mag as well as 30-40 Krag and 303 Brit. I made up a chart of all the letters I could find... do you have something in particular to want to use it for?

Be gentle and go slowly unscrewing your shell holder... you may need to replace a rusted spring after you get it apart. Drop me a PM if you need any help or support with it.

I didn't have anything in mind to use it for. But I do have 97 pieces of empty 44mag brass right now. I also have a . 429 on the way to me. So I see bright future if I can get this unit into working condition.
I appreciate your offer of help. I will contact you if I have difficulty getting it apart. I'm almost certain that I will need help if I have to locate any parts.

As greenfrog mentioned, use caution on both un-screwing and screwing in of the threaded shell holders. The shell holders are steel and the hand primer housing is cast metal. That makes it real easy to cross thread and damage the tool body. Also I learned (the hard way) to use as many fingers on the lever as I could get onto it to distribute the force as it is also cast metal and too much pressure on the top of the unsupported handle can and will eventually cause it to break. They are great little tools and I have 6 of them them, one for each pistol that I load ammo for. The only drawback I found to those tools was the fact that the body was made up of a fairly easy to break casting. Otherwise it was top rate. james

I keep telling myself I need to design and build an all machined version of the primer tool body and handle, maybe using a good grade of bronze. Most of the rest of the tool is steel. Other than my trifling nature, the main thing holding me back is that I have about a lifetime supply of original tools on the shelf.

And no pesky plastic primer tray ... you placed a primer in the seating cup with your thumb and forefinger...one at a time . I rather prefer this set now .
The plastic tray on my newest unit is so flimsy I'm not going to insult Mickey Mouse by calling it mickey mouse ... but it is useless .
