Unless you're heating them up and doctoring them with extra bacon, brown sugar, and other assorted seasonings...Cold out of the can is the way to go.

I like cold baked beans in ham sauce ,straight from the can , spread ( not too thickly) on Doritos corn chips , topped with a little EL PASO taco sauce . I've been enjoying baked beans ,hot or cold , on toasted bread , as a side , cold between two slices of bread , and hot over toast for a lot of years now .

Wow, lots of fun responses. For those former boy scouts, Cold canned beans for your evening meal, the warmer that sleeping bag will later feel"

I never cooked beans on the manifold, but foil wrapped burritos were a regular. I was working in the oilfields and the breakfast burritos were done by the time we reached the site. Later, I was assigned to a fabrication shop, no trips around the oil patch. We made down-hole wash pumps from scratch, lots of stick time in an open but covered shed. We had to hire a couple more welders to keep up with an expanded production order. My boss had a Lincoln 200 which had a quiet Continental motor, so quiet he would run out of gas but we never heard the engine quit, but knew when the arc died.

Another guy had a Miller 300 Diesel, noisy as all get out. However, he had a 'devise he mounted to the exhaust right before lunch, a double box oven. He would cook a frozen dinner for lunch which was the only time his welder was quiet. On occasion, I would bring in a frozen pies for the guys, and to quiet that noisy Miller.

Another guy copied the first guy's oven with upgrades. The first one was lifted onto and off of the exhaust, and it was heavy. The second guy built his so when not in use, it was on a cantilevered support arm, connected to the headache rack. He pulled a pin, swung the oven around and it centered-lowered on the exhaust. Putting it back on the rack took half the effort to lift and swing out of the way than the first guy's. I didn't buy frozen dinners, I did however have foil wrapped leftovers, heated courtesy of my co-workers.

I never thought of bringing a can of beans to cook in their ovens. Now, I cook and can many things from Tuna, deer, stews, soups, and other things. I used jars for many years, now I use cans, so much easier. Come to think of it, I need to do some baked beans again, and can a case or two.

Metal cans survive the bump and grind of riding in the trunk so much better than glass. A can or 2 of various things ride around in the 'emergency' box in the trunk, along with water, portable stove, first aid kit, and such things. And yes, a P38 can opener, even though the Leatherman multi tool has a better one. 1 can has various other things sealed up such as hooks and fishing line, mirror, box cutter blades, needles to include sterile suturing needles, super glue, you know, a basic survival kit ala the Boy Scout days. The P38 is taped to the top of that can.

That can is in the box in it's own bag with other things, in case I can't take the whole box. A quick ruck to go, I just added a can of Tuna and Baked beans to the ruck this morning. Glad I read this thread today

I love home made backed beans and i really like canned chilli beans and pork and beans. The first serving of backed beans, I like straight from the oven or smoker after that straight from the fridge. Canned beans never get heated!
