Let me put this in some kind of perspective.
I live in Amarillo, Tx, and we used to have LOTS of
pheasants before the drought and changing farming priorities (cotton).

I used to snicker at those boys from Houston who would fly up here and
have a guide pick them up at the airport and pay to hunt for 3 birds a day!

BUT I talked with one of those boys and he said "Hey, I work in Houston ALL YEAR
to save up money to get out of Houston to come up here for a few days and I really enjoy
it, AND it is money well spent.

I respect that and have modified my thoughts, well done boys, well done!

As one from Montana I will debate all day long that the Government is the best steward of the land. Yes we have far too many landowners who don't live on the land that lock out hunters and fishermen. Yes there are many ranches that lease to outfitters. As long as rich folks pay $10,000 to hunt trophy elk that will happen. Yes far too many ranch managers are hired more for their ability to run folks off than to run a ranch for a profit.
There are plenty of places to recreate on private land if one is respectful. There is plenty of Govm't land that is rife with changing policies, anti hunters exercising their right to protest a legal hunt, and thin antlered game. Many FWP employees are non hunters.
Trophies are to be found mainly on private land that is managed for wildlife and cattle. Those are the hard facts, public land bulls and bucks that go B&C are very rare. I believe the local ranchers know their grass better than anyone else and have a better futuristic view than most Govm't employees who are concerned with their bosses and politically appointed futures.

Is there any place in the southern states that allows hunting without it costing $2000-$5000 for a weeks hunting with an up charge for the pigs killed. Processing/butchering charge I understand. Would be using a single shot and a lever action in .45-70 shooting 405-535 gr lead bullet.
You don't need a cannon to whack a porker. They are fun though...

My little .22 short single shot has sent something over 150 pigs to heaven.
