Folks,
Just got back from the farm and thought I'd share some info about a new slug I'm putting together. It's from an AS-Molds foster type mold. I'm getting right at 132-133gn with sheet lead and dropping in water.
I have put together 2 different variants of this slug. one is with a spacer and a roll crimp and the other is directly on the wad with fold crimp. I get higher velocity with the roll crimp version. Accuracy seems about the same.
Starting with the slug itself. mine are coming in at 132.5 gn.
I'm starting with previously fired Cheddite 2.5" shells (actually think this is the 3rd or 4th firing of these) Cheddite CX2000 primer.
Powder is Alliant 410. load data was derived from Advantages manual.
Wad is Gualandi mini container or BPI SG410. I'm trimming off the shot cup on these and placing a nitro card on top for roll crimped loads. For folded loads I'm placing slug directly on top of wad.

Uncut wad next to load configuration
So, Primed hull, Powder, then wad and slug.
Off to crimper station on my MEC600 or roll crimper on drill press.
Today I shot just the fold crimp version. Velocity was:
1576
1511
1568
1687
1552
1668
1594
AVG: 1593
I shot at a couple different targets. Here's a shot of one. No sign of tumbling or keyholing. This was from 30yds.
Gun was Tristar Cobra II .410 pump with 28" barrel. Imp Cyl choke tube. Bead sight.
Not sure where to go with it from here. May go lighter on the powder. May try a load with Lil-Gun and see what it likes.
