I would have a hard time not going for a NIB 8-3/8" 29-2 . About $2,500 on GB. But to each there own.

I'd love a .357 AMP upper too as I've never gotten to play with one; the lead engineer did say they're planning on it.

I bought one in 1973 when I came back from overseas. What a piece of junk. They went bankrupt (the first time) right after I bought it. I did not have the reloading skills to make reliable ammo, and the CDM (?) stuff from Mexico was useless. I bought it for 299 plus tax and sold it for 400--thank you Dirty Harry. Nothing would make me buy another one.

Have two that I've had for a long time, get them out for a clean/shoot/clean every now and then. Never have had any of the mechanical issues though.

I doubt I would ever buy one but they sure a cool factor !

    We have a S&W 8 3/8 in 41 mag and a Dan Wesson 8 inch 41 mag. I would not trade our DW 41 for any S&W 41mag.
We have a bunch of S&W revolvers so I am not against then but they sure are not a Dan Wesson.

The price is one of the problems with being an old guy
I paid $700. Less for the first new car I bought. And only $1300. More for a new mobile home furnished with AC when I got married .
I am glad they make them and hope some of you guys get one , look like a neat pistol.

I used to want one and would drool over them at gun shows. A friend bought one a few years back and I ran a few rounds through it. Another friend bought a desert eagle also some years ago and I shot it too. I think the desert eagle might be the better shooter, but I’m with the guys above on the revolvers. I’ve owned quite a few big bore long barreled revolvers and the most accurate scoped one was a Ruger Super Redhawk with a 9 1/2” barrel.

And Mack Bolan also carried a Beretta 93 I think it was that shot 3 round bursts. I’d still like one of thos too!

leadeye, how accurate are those Automags? I had a friend who had one and he complained about the accuracy constantly but IIRC he was not the best shot anyway. Do you shoot cast in yours? I am thinking that loading them down to less than full throttle would cause functioning problems??

The top one in the picture is a TDE 180, It shoots as well as the M-29 S&W in the same picture. I've not fired cast in either one and you are correct about the down loading. You don't go down to far without issues with function. While I've never had "bolt bounce" I know people who did, so for me it's shoot, check, shoot, check etc.

I would like to get one of the new ones someday and hope the company decides to make parts for the old ones.

On the left is a Safariland shoulder holster for the Automag and on the right is a Lawman Leathergoods shoulder holster for the Model 29.

Standing on my hind legs for these, I was not used to the gun then and still intimidated by it - but those are 5 shot groups at each 1" sticker at 10 yards. Started top-left and worked clockwise:

I think my friend tried to load his down to make it more comfortable to shoot and he had bolt bounce like you're talking about. I had a chance to swap an 8 3/8" model 29 even for that gun and declined because of that. I had just shot my first whitetail with a cast boolit at about 1000 fps and was hooked on lower velocities and could not do it with that particular gun. I have wished a thousand times I had now.
AndyC , that's some pretty good shooting with a big gun, my friend. Especially that last group. What load are you running in that new gun? BTW, that's a good looking holster you crafted.
