    broken case exracter.

does any one know how to use either of the 45/70's early or the later one to extract the separated case out of the SPRINGFOELD TRAP DOOR GUN? I have both and not a clue on how to use them> and also I have a thing that screwed onto the ramrod that looks like a small thimble with serrations on it, it fits on an 1873 rod, any one? thanks.

    .

Respectfully, this is the muzzleloading forum, and questions like this should be placed in the gunsmithing section.

Anyway, the rod is a wiping rod, and not a ramrod, the end set up to accept cleaning patches.

The extractor gets inserted into the rear of the broken shell, and the trapdoor closed in order to "seat it".

The trapdoor is then opened and the cleaning rod/bayonet used from the muzzle to force the extractor out along with the broken shell casing.
