    1871 Mauser for some deer

Second morning of season, and I found an opportunity to fill a couple antlerless tags for some needed meat for the freezer. Two deer, two shots, and my daugther is sad that there is no heart to eat. Maybe I need to stop aiming there.

Third of a pound of perfectly good meat lost to avoid dozens of pounds lost is a perfectly good trade.

Great shooting dead eye!! Well done and enjoy those backstaps

Unfortunately, the first was headed toward me and was about to bolt. Behind the shoulder wasn't an option. The second was similar as I was trying to get a clear shot for about 15 min. as she wandered around the brush.

Yes. Normally about 75 gr. of 1.5F (OE) but I recently ran out so created a reasonable round with 65 gr. of 3Fg

Card wad and then a 400 gr. bullet at .450"

Good afternoon and 2x Congratulations !
Black powder and soft cast will always be a deadly combination on whatever it Thwaps into.
We run 3F Goex in near all our cartridge rifles anymore. 32-20s, right up to the 50-95 and Spencer. Only our Ballards get 2F.

Very good . On does I use a head shot if available and waste no meat . Good cast bullets rarely waste any to begin with but I do also shoot jacketed in some guns .
