    Today was a great day

My grandson shot his first deer this morning, a nice fat 5 point, with my Henry big boy in .45 colt using my load of 18.5 gr. A2400 and the Lee 452-255 WFN. He hit the spine just above the tenderloin, it had to be shot again. Both were pass through. Shot was around 40 yards. Him and his family were extremely happy for him as well as myself..

Good for him! I wonder what his favorite firearm is now,,,,,

Love to hear when a youngster is enjoying a good hunt. Great job.
It takes more than just reading, to prepare a young soldier for battle.
Your experience means the world to the young.

I chronographed a few last month but the sun was in and out behind clouds and was getting some variation, from 1240- 1310 fps. It might be due for a new battery and will be replaced the next time I use it.

Thanks for the quick reply. I have a chronograph, but I have not had time to set it up and try a couple of loads. To tell you the truth, I'm terrified of killing it with my first shot. lol.

Conrats to you and him! Enjoy as much as you can. I don't get to see my grandkids anymore. I would love to teach them how to hunt. Our oldest grandson always loved to go shooting with us, and wanted to look at my guns here at home. I ticked off his parents and don't get to see them anymore.

Hi all, this probably needs not be said, but I'll say it anyway, the load I used is considered a +p load and not suitable for Colt SAA or it's clones or Bond arms derringers or Taraus Judges or anything else of questionable integrity. It's a stout load even when shot from my Ruger blackhawk.
