High Velocity in a 7mm Mauser

Continued experiments with powder coated boolits in my 7mm Mauser. Today I soared to an amazing 2920fps with a 139gn Lyman cast bullet (red). After 15 rounds I could not detect any leading so I moved to a 150gn RCBS boolit (black) and reduced the powder charge by 1/2 grain.

Next week I hope to test loads prepared for the 243 Winchester.

That's fantastic. Must be a modern 7mm Mau. I'm thinking some of the old military 7mm Mau's couldn't handle those pressures.

BA Wallace: I absolutely love the 7mm Mauser. Own several Mausers chambered in 7x57mm. I am very interested in the accuracy results of your tests. Am just now getting to where I will be casting and loading for my rifles. Please keep us updated on your results.

My avatar is almost a dead ringer for my little buddy Chico. Six pounds of mean that thought he was a Pit Bull. Miss that little guy.

The rifle is an FN Mauser with military barrel that has had an estimated 4000 rounds of cast boolits. Internally the barrel is unblemished and mirror finished.

My favorite rifle is a Ruger tang safety 77RS in 7X57. It prefers the 154 Hornady SP & IMR4350. I'm following this post closely as I want to start using cast boolits for this classic.
