    Henry 44 Magnum

Curious about what kind of accuracy and cycling reliability you guys are getting with them?

I'm possibly looking at one as a deer and hog rifle, though if I'm being honest, I'll shoot more empty milk jugs and soda cans with it than game

I was shooting my Henry big boy steel today, it functions well, and accuracy is ok. I can only shoot to 50 yards at the house, groups around 1.5" or so with factory ammo today. some of my reloads are better, some worse. it is sensitive of how you put it on the rest to shoot groups. my plinking load is a berry 220 plated with some unique, and that is about a one hole group. I also have 2 Marlin 44's, and they shoot about the same.

My question is whether Henry adheres to SAAMI standards for allowable rifle groove diameters. The rifle specs are sloppier than the revolver specs, so even a .432" bore is acceptable.
Obviously, a .430" JSP is not likely to shoot well in such an oversized bore.
Has anyone slugged their Henry bore and found that it is closer to .429"-.430" ?
Or, have you found yours to be larger than this, like many Marlin 1894s ?

I had one for a spell. Found it really liked Oregon Trail .431" 240 grain SWC's. Factory bought HSM Cowboy 44 Special loads key-holed at 15 yards. I think they must have been .428- .429. Anyhow I traded it off for a Rossi R92. Henry weighed 8.5 pounds, and the Rossi weighs 5 pounds. No point in toting 3 1/2 extra pounds around the woods.

I second Prairie Cowboy. Anybody slugged a new Henry 20 twist 44 mag bore? Would LOVE to know groove diameter.
