KY Buck #2 Down, the wife scores!

A lot of you guys on here, are used to seeing my wife with a deer, this is no different. She saw the same 4 pt running wide open just before dark @250 yd, and did not give her a shot yesterday. This morning the same buck popped out about 40 yds from her blind, and went and scent checked the feeder for a doe, turned broadside at 100yds in front of the feeder. She tucked the shot in about 1/2" behind the shoulder, double lung, and he lunged about 20 yds and piled up. She was using a .270 Savage I had built her on a 110 action, with a muzzle brake for her elk hunt in 2009 when she drew a bull tag here in KY. She had not shot it since. The las 2 years, she had made good shots with her .243, and the deer ran dead on their feet about 70 yds, over some difficult terrain to get them out. I encouraged her to give the .270 a try since it kicks no more than her .243, and she was glad she did. No meat loss, he is already boned out on ice. We will grind her buck and mine tomorrow and put in the freezer. Should end up with about #120 of burger plus the backstraps, and that will make #200 for this year. I will get TBG to post some pic, just thought I would share.

I love a good story err especially one with a good ending. My gf wants me to take her shooting and teach her how to shoot. I don't know if she would hunt though, you sure got yourself a keeper!!

That's just wonderful, Sam. Let her know we are all happy and excited for her success. By the way, did she score on an elk in 2009?

Yep she killed a 4x4 I called out of the woods just before Dark that year, 175 yds and she broke his neck looking at us dead on. Dropped in his tracks.

Congratulations to Mrs. Koger! I would love to see a picture of that .270 Savage model 110 that you built for her, if it's not too much trouble.

Mrs. Treetop hunted this afternoon but only saw one spike buck so she decided to wait and let one of the grandkids take him. We already have two does in the freezer since opening day with lots of season left.

She hunts with a factory "youth model" Savage in .308 Win. It came with a shorter LOP rear stock that fits her very well and a built in muzzle brake that seems to be pretty effective. She has killed many, many central Texas deer and hogs with this rifle using my handloads.

Once again, congrats to Mrs. Koger! We are truly blessed to have wives that enjoy hunting! Treetop
