    smoked bone in venison shoulder

we smoked a whole shoulder today, with just a little butt rub and everglades seasoning.it went in the smoker about 9am on 225 for about 2 1/2 hours.my wife cut up some taters and onions and put in a roasting pan with the shoulder and a little beef broth for 3 more hours covered then just cut it off and left it till we came out of the woods.we heated it back up a little and it pulled off the bone clean and was fork tender.it turned out great

Sounds good, what type of wood did you smoke it with?

Glad to hear that you use the shanks, I'm afraid that too many people toss them out, I know the processors do. I like to braise them in a dutch oven on the woodstove. If they are prepared correctly they are one of my favorite cuts on a deer.
