Gas checks or gas check punch options for 50 cal?

Looks like Hornady used to make the gas checks, haven't seen any punches for that caliber. But does anyone know of current places to get 50 cal gas checks or gas check punches at? It's for 50bmg cast bullets if that matters. I think .514 or .516.

    Thanks

Do a web search for Gator gas checks, as for a top punch you can use a flat nose solid top punch

Found the gators earlier today but they have three different ones for 50's. Which goes with the 50bmg?

As for the "flat nose solid top punch".... are you saying something like this.... http://www.accuratemolds.com/topPunch.php and if so I'm confused how that produces gas checks.

EDIT: Found them I think. Not sure if they will fit the NOE Mold though... https://www.sagesoutdoors.com/50-lr-...or-gas-checks/

    Thanks

Give them a call and tell them you need them for 50 BMG. As for the punch I thought you was referring to the top punch that pushes the bullet into the sizer die

I see that "top punches" are on the mold sites but I haven't had to use them with any pistol bullets. I usually use LEE sizers and it just pushes the bullets straight up into the attached container. So I'll have to dig a little more to understand if/why the top punch is needed.

Did you see my edit in the post above yours? Just curious if the gators I linked to match up with NOE's 50bmg LR mold?

    Thanks

EMT1581: What 50 BMG mold are you using? What is the diameter for the base where the gas check is attached on a 50 BMG boolit you cast?

Let me know as I shoot some cast 50BMG and had a Gas Check maker made up special to work with my mold. Send me a PM to further discuss.

    For the group:

If I understand the PM I received from EMT1581; he is buying an NOE .513 caliber mold: 513-650-LFN-AG2 4 Cavity PB. This is a plain Base Mold and does not take a Gas Check.

The Cast Boolits I use in my AR50 are from a NOE .513 mold: 513-887-LFN-AG3. This mold is set up for a gas check on the base.

I had a gas check die specially made to make gas checks or this mold using aluminum stock.

Those were the ones I was considering. It does say .468 is what they fit and the tail of the NOE is .468...so should be a perfect fit right?

If so, I'll pull the trigger on both the mold and 1k checks.

    Thanks!

I put Sage's on my Beowooof.

Note: They two GC's for 50cal:

    - Shallow cup for regular bullets (like the 440 Woof above with a 0.11" tail)
    - Aand deep cup for 50 BMG types. The NOE appears to have the deep GC tail at 0.205"

Okie dokie, I'll give them a shot. Worst case, I'll be out $50 and have to figure something else out. But if not, 1k of these should be enough to give me range ammo for years. Right now I only have 100 primers and a couple pounds of powder, but that's at least a start. Can't wait to give this a try! Thanks for chiming in.

    emt1581:

at about 29 rounds per pound (full 50BMG Powder charge of about 2800 fps); you might want to consider stocking up on some surplus WC860, WC867, WC870, or WC872 for your 50BMG. Some locations to pick up surplus 50BMG (or 20mm vulcan to use in 50BMG) are:

    Jeff Bartlets: http://gibrass.com/gunpowder.html

    or

    Pat's reloading: http://patsreloading.com/patsrel3/It...ategory=Powder

Pats reloading also lists having 50BMG Primers (at an elevated price = to 44 cents per primer) in units of 500 (Prices before shipping & Hazmat).

I remember one of those places had astronomical shipping rates and the other was OOS when I checked a month or two ago.

    Need to check both again.

    Thanks
