That "charlie" looks like it would be good with rum or vodka. Evan Williams is made for ice and a splash of water.
I mix my whiskey half and half with more whiskey.

This does mix VERY well with vodka. I’ve never tried it with rum.

I’m going to give your mix a try, I’m a fan of bourbon.
My grandfather was really fond of frozen whiskey sours, basically just a blender full of ice with powdered lemonade mix dumped in and about a half pint of whiskey over the top. If you use pink lemonade they are a bit humbling, they sneak up on people. Great sit on the porch in the cool after work mixer.
When I played in the bars, the waitresses would see me coming and they'd start on Gas in a Glass. They'd fill a big bar tumbler with ice, then they would dump the Beam into it while they made this face like they were going to sleep, wake em up when it was full, then they'd take the Coke and go SPLISH! Maybe a tablespoon or two, and stick a straw in it. I'd drink 3 or 4 of them a nite playing bass til 2am.. Prolly 6 shots in each.

I prefer my bourbon neat. They spent all those years in a barrel trying to perfect a flavor. I’m not about to ruin it by putting anything in it.
Ghosthawk! I have a memory very close to yours with my grandpa, I was 15 when he went to heaven, I think about him daily, he would be 109 years old now. I often wonder what his take on the world now would be. I miss him terribly.
