Old double barrel won't open all the way.

A friend picked up and a 1950's vintage DB. Shot it once and she would'nt open all the way. Told him to drizzle some solvent into the action but so far that has not worked. I think it's a Federal Arms gun but can't remember for sure. Could not see how the fore end attached, maybe it snaps in place. If I got that off it would allow better inspection. Any ideas?

I suspect if you drop the fore end then the barrels will roll open. Sounds like the extractor is frozen, jar to say without it in my hands.

Those are not that complicated should be easy to fix.
Something could have broken and jammed it up.

You didn't say if he shot both barrels or one, but the firing pins can stick forward in the fired primers on some old doubles due to corrosion or dirt, making it hard to open. Taking off the forend is the first step as said above.

Pull down on the fore end tip.

The OP didn't say whether or not he removed the spent shell. It could also be stuck in the chamber.

I think there are two spent shells still in it.

How much will it open, 10% or 90% or not at all?
