Looks like they would go through the length of a buffalo.
    I think 4895 is 2206h???

G'day mate yep H4895 is 06H just easier to use the American names on these sites
I plan on trying some just think with the fast twist of the Carcano keeping the velocity down might be a good idea

Now with an different beast all together.
I found 2206h shot better than 2208 in a 30-30 with paperpatched bullets.
I had mummies with 2208 and never could really get the pressure up to get it to burn.
It shot O.k but nothing flash.
just like 2205 in a cadet.

I do not know about gain twist and cast if you need a hard alloy or not.
    Guess you will find out.
    Good luck.
I’ve always wanted a 7.32 carcarno but never found one.
I believe it to be like a 30-30.

smlekid--Nice boolit! I also like 4895 for the 6.5mm Carcano, but other powders work well also.

I also tend to use the American names. I've only just started using H4895 and so far I am liking it. So if the maximum for a 160gr bullet is 30gr, according to the 60% rule one can go down to 18gr. I would double check that! I don't know what happens if you go too low with H4895.

I’ve got a 7.35 Carcano (reckon that’s what you meant) that’s been sporterized. Don’t have a mould for it so I took a Lee 7mm sizing die and had it reamed to .2995. I run some thin wall 30-30 jacketed bullets thru it to use them in my 7.35 Carcano. Got a few loaded, but have not made it to the range yet. Real curious on how they will shoot. May have to open up my die another thousands or so.

I can tell you about gain twist and cast bullets; check out the performance of Harry Pope rifled schuetzen rifles or current schuetzen riflez with RKS barrels. Pope's and RKS barrdls are gIn twist. RKS barrels shoot under 3/4 moa at 200 yes with plain base lead bullets.
If the Carcano won't shoot it'll be another reason.

I have been fascinated with gain twist and lead bullets for a long time. I tried to find gain twist military rifles;(Italian) for a long time, but could find none with really good rifling. The Mod.41 Carcano is 6.5, but from what I have read, has a fixed pitch twist. I know there is one waiting for me somewhere out there, just haven't found it yet........................

Thanks for the great article! A lot of great info in one place. I have watched with great interest the run n' gun series of Utube; that young fellow sure handles those old battle rifles like a professional!!! I especially like the one on the Carcano. I was looking thru my "stuff" in the garage and ran across 3 Carcano magazines(clips). I'm thinking a good candidate for "Vintage Military Rifle" class with lead boolits......................

FWIW, there are quite a few RKS gain twist barrels in use by schuetzen competitors, some of whom shoot very small groups @ 200yds. Most use lead/tinn alloys in the range of 30/ 1 to 25/1.
I don't have a gain twist barrel so can't say with authority but I would bet it would be the same hardness vs velocity that we are used to.

    Thanks about the info.
    I haven’t seen a cacarno in 35years.
    I have a Lyman 301 mold.
I thought I’d be able to get one cheap as because no one has ever said anything nice about them.
Apparently you need a clip for it to feed from the mag.

I’m still waiting for my 7.35 covered in cosmolene to show up for next to nothing as it’s not as common as the not so common one.

Go to flea-bay and search for Carcano adapter. There’s a fellow from Gun Boards selling single shot Carcano adapters. They are 3D printed plastic magazine inserts and work great.

According to an article I read, the "beginning twist in the Carcano is about 1 in 18.5 and speeds up to 1 in 7.9 at the muzzle". I would sure like to see a cast slug after I exits that twist; seems like the groove would be all over that bullet! I finally found a rifle with a good tube, but its on a Vetterli Vitali, really don't want to fool with that thing............................
