    Herters m49 lube/sizer components

In a local classifieds I found someone selling a Herters m49 bullet sizing/lube unit. It comes with a .359 die and top punch. Does anyone here know if additional dies/punches can be had (.309 & .311 for my 30-30's)? I wonder will the RCBS's fit?
Before I buy it (he's asking $60 for it), I'd like to know if I'll be able to use it for additional calibers. If ya'll think this sizer will be too much trouble/expense then I'll keep Alox lubing. Thanks for the help.

There are at least two different kinds of those. I have one that has a set screw that holds in the die and top punch and it uses lyman/ RCBS style dies and top punches. I have another one that uses saeco style threaded dies and top punches.

Thanks....I tried to copy and paste the pics but cannot get it. It doesn't look like the die is threaded. But I don't see a set screw to hold the die in place. I may just pass on it since I don't know if components ae going to be available. Thanks for responding.

The Model 49 uses Lyman type dies and top punch. I have not tried to sort this out, but some people say Lyman dies will work ok and others say they are a tad too small and cannot be used. No problem with the top punches interchanging.

    I hope the Lyman dies work with the one I bought . If they don't I'm out $70 . I'm told the one I have is a pre/early Lyman 45 .

On the Herters, should be this one. Yes Lyman fit but you need the set screw.

Someone got that wrong. The 45 came out in 1947, 20 years ahead of your Herter's. When Lyman replaced the 45 with the 450 Herter's picked up the remaining stock and offered them for sale in their catalogs.

Thanks Pressman , that makes sense and looks right .

Mine has the plain brass tube and 0 ring piston in it , I would guess the piston is new/replacement parts .

Will Darrs lube need a heater ? My version is basically 10wt at 100° .
