    Multi-Cultural Supper

Okay, well wifey is off on other duties, so Joey and I are batching it. Well, what's for supper? Don't really feel like cooking. Check the fridge and freezer. Tamales I made last year. White tail, yum. Need some veggies. Oh, yeah, Sauerkraut and dill pickled green tomatoes. Not your normal meal, I'm sure, but pretty tasty. May be breakfast, not sure.

Marinated green tomatoes and sauerkraut are eaten in Texas. My world will no longer be as it was before. For Ukraine, where I live, this is a normal everyday food during the autumn and winter period. And only for the elderly. The younger generation rarely eats it.

Before Texas was a State, the central part of Texas was settled by a large number of Germans, Czechs and Polish people. We have a big tradition of their food and heritage.

My lunch today was leftover pasta with pesto sauce and brook trout flakes tossed together.

    Here, we call that 'foraging'.

Having been born and grew up in Texas; I often refer to myself and family as MONGRELS. When your family heritage is from German, English, Irish, Mexican, Indian (also referred to as Native American), and..... One tends to have a taste for a variety of foods; and toss in the "Southern Cooking Thing", and a meal is pretty much whatever is available in the pantry/frig/freezer; and of course if necessary ROAD KILL could always be on the menu in hard times. .

As an aside; my wife still gives me a a ribbing over bringing home 5 Bob White Quail one day, She asked "Where did you get those?" I responded that I had been driving and hit the covey with the Blazer when they jumped from the brush on the side of the road. Keep in mind that she is

    From Queens New York.
