Found another old .22 needing a home

I did some horse trading recently, I was selling a gun and the owner of the shop kind of sweetened the pot with an old Remington Improved #6 rifle. It needed some real cleaning up and a buttplate that I ended up finding online. The bore is excellent and the rifling very clean so I took it to the range with some CCI .22 Shorts at around 30 yards. A little playing around with the sights and it will make a nice little squirrel gun.

Whatever cannot be remedied, must be endured.

    Nice acquisition!

Very interesting action. Would you be so kind as to give us more revealing pics of the action, please? I have a barrel or two that I would like to build an action for and am looking for ideas, apart from just being plain interested in that action.

I have this thing about old 22's. My oldest is 1938/9 Mauser but it's actually a very modern action (in my opinion).

Also, it would be fun to see how it shoots with long rifle ammo or is it a shorts only chambering?

Nice find, hard to beat those old remingtons. That one is from the 30's and you should be able to shoot modern/hv ammo in it if you choose to do so.

Thank you for the photos and info. That’s a nice find.

I too am a fan of old 22s and am quite fond of restoring them to preserve for future shooters so seeing others doing the same is always fun.

Love those old "boys' rifles" Not just for what they are but the culture they represent.

The thing about .22 barrels is, if the bore is good you can clamp whatever barrel you have in a vise and hit the round with a hammer and it will shoot well!
I've seen .22 barrels that were pitted so badly on the outside shoot lights out!
    Good score!!

What , three or four moving parts? Steel and walnut. They should be building them today. Iguess everyone wants lots of moving parts. I am now looking for one.

I had a mint #6 that was 22short only. Original owner gave it to me. He got it when a kid as sales promotion for salve.

Cool find. I picked one of those up a couple of years ago. Sweet little rifle, and you can still get parts for it.

This thread has come around at a perfect time. There is one of these for sale locally and I am going to look at it this weekend.

If the barrel is trashed how much should I expect to pay for a relining?

    Thanks,

    Steve in N CA
