    50 years later...

When I was too young to own my own gun, my older brother let me borrow this Winchester model 250 occasionally. I remember that it had a heavy trigger but looked and shot good. He brought it over yesterday with a jammed round in it and also asked me to mount the cheap red dot sight once I fixed it. The only thing wrong was decades of oily gunpowder residue in the guts. A tooth brush, solvent and compressed air fixed it up. It still looks, shoots and works good- and the trigger is still heavy but at least it is a crisp heavy, not crunchy creepy heavy.

There were four of us boys and Dad taught us how to shoot with his 511 Remington bolt action .22 rifle. When we turned 14, he paid half of the cost of our first .22 rifle. Oldest chose a Marlin model 60, next chose the Win. 250, the next chose a Browning BL-22, and I chose a Remington Nylon 66. All great guns! All of us acquired bolt action .22s later on to pay homage to our roots...... great memories, indeed.

Wonderful thing about guns. With only moderate care theyll last long enough to evince memories after all those years.
