    Hello pewter!

It’s been a good week. I picked a up a big pewter candy dish Monday fo $1.32, a university of WI heavy pewter mug on Wednesday for $2.99, and this was a little spendy. It was $5.99 today. It has to be approx 2 pounds of a little heavier.

No dents...I might have to see if I can retail it instead of melting.

I'm afraid if I found one like that, the wife would take it away, or she would take something else away!!
Spell check doesn't work in Chrome, so if something is spelled wrong, it's just a typo that I missed.

If there's a catalog number on the bottom it gets puddleized.

I'd have a hard time melting that one down, but I have a whole lot of tin I got for nothing, so there's that.

Some of that stuff is pretty collectable to the right people, you might want to at least look around first, the money might buy a lot more tin than it would render down.

I found two currently on eBay with an asking price of $25 and $29 plus $15 to ship on both. I’ll watch see if either sell. It would buy a lot more cheap pewter of it sells at that price...or another brick of normal cost primers that are currently in stock at my LGS.

I take it there’s no lead in this since you can drink out of it. It’s a Preisner 6061 13.

Keep it! Don't melt it down for silly little boolits. Worth much more in it's excellent condition. Sell it on EvilBay and buy pure Sn on here.

Some of the stuff I find goes on the "maybe melt it someday" shelf.
That would be a nice holiday gift if you boxed it with some tea.

    It’s a Preisner 6061 13.

That 6061 number is a very common aluminum alloy ...

Does it say "Preisner Pewter" on the bottom? If not, it may be 6061 aluminum! I don't think they made Al ware but for cost points they may have made some in recent years.

There is a series "2061" pewter. And other "20xx" series items around.

I have a few of their older pieces and they all distinctly say "PEWTER" on the bottom...............and no numbers like that.

OP: Is the 6061 a model number or an alloy number?

I buy pewter items if cheap enough buy I wasn’t buying them for bullets. Had been into Muzzel loaders and was casting pewter end caps on stocks. Wife and daughter always grabbing some piece to cute to melt. It makes good sense if you get some nice items to sell them and buy tin. I have about a dozen Lyman ingots of Pewter. I wasn’t into the various alloys of it. If it was pewter in went in pot. I’ve been thinking of making 32/20 bullets out of pure pewter.

The 2061...not 6061... I typed it wrong (my fault) is the model “catalog” number, not the alloy. Its stamped “pewter” on the bottom. If it is not stamped pewter, tin, or zinn I won’t buy it. I picked these up today! No dingers again. What??? People are not banging up their pewter anymore???lol, everything I buy has dents in it accept for the last two trips.

No one has bought the T pots off eBay yet. I might actually list mine and drop it to $30/$35 with free shipping and see what happens. If sold it will buy a lot more thrift store pewter or almost a brick of $39.99 primers at the LGS.

You inspired me, Tripplebeards, to go back to the hunt. After a long layoff, I picked up another 5# worth at an average cost under three bucks a pound this past week.

I'll have to plan a major pewter melting day: even after flattening mugs and the like, my stash is hogging a lot of storage space.

add "etain" to your list of acceptable markings. Just another of those European languages.
