    Another view ...

It's a great Old School hunter, if you can do your part with the iron-sights.

    Gramps sure did.

Golly gee I just remembered I bought 100 rds of Hornady 30-40 brass from a tip here a year ago and forgot all about it. This gives me 300 rds of brass which will do me a while.
I'll set aside me oldest brass for experimenting with checkless pop gun loads and since a got a pound of Unique for .38/.44 spl I'll try the 8-10 gr Unique to see if checkless bullets will shoot at ~1200 fps.

Man, of ALL the actions I'd REALLY NOT want to overload, I think the Krag is near the top of the list. I guess some of the Italian bolt actions might be weaker, but I'm not sure the difference is worth mentioning.
In any case, I'm glad y'all emerged pretty much unscathed.
I'm pretty sure I'll double-charge a case one of these days (I may already have), but in 8x57 with 200 gr. bullets, I generally use slightly reduce charges of IMR-4895 or Varget, and leave the pistol-powders on the shelf.
The one "occurance" that I had was when using 2400 with a 205 gr. PC bullet. I had just begun the work-up, so I double-charged the lightest charge weight (which was STILL 59% over max), and may be all that saved me. Anyway, MUCH harder recoil, much louder report (enough to turn other people's heads at the range), stuck bolt, and bullet hole in the target well above and away from the others. Had to rubber-mallet the bolt open, but it only took like a half-dozen hits. Case stayed together, primer popped out, and the very end of the rifle barrel looked heavily leaded.
I put the reloads away, shot some PPU factory 150s through it to see if anything would happen, and was pleasantly surprised by 20 uneventful rounds sent down range. I'm not sure the Czech Vz-24 ever knew the difference between the previously-shot cast loads, the over-load, or the factory loads, and I'm thankful to the Germans and Czechs for their tendency to over-engineer almost everything.

Nick Adams, that is a very nice rifle. I would probably miss seeing the nearby buck because of gazing at the Krag in my lap....
And I've only used 30-40 Krag brass in my Krags and custom Siamese Mauser because it wasn't hard to find.
