Friend is having all kinds of problems.
He went to get a MRI.
I thought because of his cortical implants, he couldn't have an MRI done.
He said the wrapped his head in gauze, and that was it.
I thought if you had any metal in you, it would be pulled out by the MRI.
He still alive, so I guess not.

Depends on the metal. Ferrous metals for sure. Nonferrous not so much. Eddie currents are still made.

Have very small lead fragments in left rib cage from being accidentally shot with .22 in mid 70’s. Funny to see on x- rays. As “ arthur” is bad everywhere , doc wanted a MRI. Lab learned I had lead in rib cage and said MRI would “ pull it out or move it”. I asked the tech. where they went to school as lead is NON Magnetic, got a dumb look and my doc said get it done. Result was, surgeon told me had collapsed disc on Thursday, in surgery following Tuesday. Some people.....

Yep.....lead is a non-issue with an MRI. I have a .177 cal pellet in my lung (since 6th grade), and have had more MRI’s than I care to think about due to a back injury! If it were gonna be a problem.....I think that I’d know by now! memtb

I have lots of metal in me. Neck fusion, back fusion. 2 knees. They put me in the low power MRI and it takes twice as long as the high power one.

Cautionary thought:

Lead, copper and Zink (Guilding Metal) is not generally magnetically attracted or cause image problems in an MRI. But; if a person was wounded by a Steel Jacketed bullet (i.e. some European, Russian, Chinese, and US WWII ammo) it might be an issue.

I just had an MRI this summer, I’ve had both hips replaced, lots of metal. I guess they must have turned the power down. But they did tell me I may feel some warmth developing around the joints, and I did. Kinda strange feeling.

Friend is deaf as a post & she has a Cochlear Implant, now THOSE I guess will rule out an MRI.

But she sure hears much better now!!

Just an aside...I was working at the Veteran's Hospital in Gainesville, FL during the development of x-ray Computer Tomography (CT), trying to navigate a cubic centimeter (at that time) around non-invasively. I was working alone, in a basement room, down a corridor, a very very long circuitous walk away from their lab, but come to find out their testing lab was on the other side of our common, but unshielded wall. I kept having all of my credit/bank cards blanked. It was costing me $10.00 a pop to have them reissued.

Technicians had wheeled a tall steel oxygen cylinder into my office for its temporary storage. Without warning, the bottle began to wobble against the wall. The sight was completely unnerving and "off the chart" weird. When it happened the 2nd and 3rd time, I went to Management with my concerns. There was no feeling of "earthquake" or building shake to account for the bottle's behavior.

I told my attending PhD about the experiences. He did some quick research, found the commonality between that lab and my office, and quickly told them to shield their liquid nitrogen, super cooled, SUPER CONDUCTING MAGNET that was bombarding me with the potential of pulling the oxygen bottle through the wall! I had been "pulsed" substantially by polarized magnetism in their testing. Good thing I had no metal in me, except teeth fillings, (then or now).

Kind of reminds me back in the late 90s or early 20s. Any remember all that stuff in the news about RF energy and power lines and cancer? Still floats up every now and then about cellphones now.
