Looks like J-B Weld might be a somewhat decent solution, but not as good as a metal plate cut to surround the spring.
Spell check doesn't work in Chrome, so if something is spelled wrong, it's just a typo that I missed.

    Okay,
I spent an hour or so this morning cutting this embarrassingly crude insert out of .012 dead soft aluminum left over from one of the race cars. It works great, but it's visible between the floorplate and the stock.
All of this compromise is the result of the "really nice" custom stock, as you guys put it.
Having seen some of the factory stocks on the Savage 110's I will keep compromising! I believe this stock is worth the effort.
I really think the best alternative is the Gorilla Tape. Lies down flat so you don't see it, grips like crazy, and when it does start to fail is easily replaced.
But....I did get to practice my fabrication skills. Another piece for the parts box...

How about a piece of .063" or .090" with cut out fitting in the box area and glued down internally.

Because we are dealing with a custom stock the bottom of the magazine box is flush with the bottom of the stock. just about anything I put there is going to hold the floorplate off the stock a visible amount. The tape will work fine and be unobtrusive.
