22Lr Cases what can they be used for?

I do quite well recuperating lead from my clubs indoor range. We generate a lot of. 22Lrs. Any idea of what they can be used for? Is the salvage price near that of copper? I doubt it. Is it practical to melt it down into small ingots or shapes that can be machined. It’s a shame to see it all just dumped at the dump. Any ideas.

Check over in the swaging section. A lot of 22 casings made into .224 bullets.

It is a shame that any metal ends up at the dump.

The scrap yard will take them here . Last time the price was $1.22 a pound. They have it listed in its own category, Cartridge Brass. They dump it out to look for live rounds and check it with a magnet. Do not throw it away, recycle.

I know a guy that planned on melting them down to make cannons.

Don't dump 'em, recycle them. My joint takes them as "bullets" $2.50/kg last trip out there 6 months ago.

I have one of those big clear plastic teddy bear jars and throw 22 brass I swept up at the range when cleaning up my 9 brass, it all goes in the jar. Also throw in any split or off stuff and when it is full it, along with spent primers, jackets and even steel/aluminum cases go to the metal yard. I have no idea what stuff brings these days. I figure if I get a few bucks for a dimmer it was money I didn't have before.

They use the 22lr cases to make jackets to swage jacketed .224 over in the swaging group.

I have 2 5 gallon buckets full that I need to find a home for. The local recycler will take them as cartridge brass, but it seems like such a waste if someone could swage them into 22cal jacketed bullets.

Maybe he's just picky, but my buddy who was making .223 jackets out of .22 LR brass preferred single head stamp, presumably for consistency.

Since he stopped doing the swaging I just recycle them mixed into scrap brass.

If you aren't worried about the $, put up a post in the WTS/WTS section as there might be someone who could use them swaging who would take them and pay the postage to get them.

Make small powder dippers : A 22 standard LR case will dip :
    3.5 grs. Bullseye
    3.0 grs. Unique
    2.7 grs. 700X
    4.5 grs. Titegroup
    3.7 grs. HP-38
5.3 grs. AA #5 (Accurate Arms)

A section of #12 copper wire makes a dandy handle .
