High velocity cast boolits in the 22 Hornet

After three weeks of casting and coating near 5,000 cast pills it was time to start testing PC boolit loads.

Today I started with the 22 Hornet and a little 40gn plain based bullet from MP molds. After finding Eastwood "Ford light blue" powder gave a good coverage with a single coat I prepared 25 loads ranging from 7gn 4227 to 9.0gn 4227 in 0.5gn inrements.

    Starting at 7gn 1843fps
    7.5gn 1910fps
    8.0gn 2068fps
    8.5gn 2260fps
    9.0gn 2388fps

I then shot on a paper target with the remaining rounds and was delighted to see little groups forming on target. The first 3 at 50m (lower group) shots indicated a change in impact from my normal jacketed rounds. An adjustment of 4 clicks up saw a beautiful cloverleaf form in the black, another 4 clicks up saw the bullet strike 1" above the bull where I normally zero.

In all I fired 25 rounds and could find no trace of blue coating in the barrel. Definately deserves more testing after I reload the empties! nya:

Great results for that small bullet. After 100 or so you may see some dark dust in the bore but no buildup. You have probably 1% added weight from the coating and that basically makes no difference.
    Whatever!

Color me impressed...but if you shot 25 why are there only 7 rounds on the target?

I assume you do not shoot targets when choreographing?

    I think that’s amazing! Congratulations!

That said, I am reluctant to cast that far ahead much less powder coat them as well until I have a great load worked out.

But like the old adage goes ..... Do not argue with success!

    Looks good!
Old enough to know better, young enough to do it anyway!

Men who don't understand women fall into two categories: bachelors and husbands!
