Congrats! Glad you had success and that was a fantastic shot! You and your son will remember this hunt for a long time! Nice that the two of you could share the hunt and that you had success after waiting all those years.

After developing the load a dozen years ago the last phase was to harden the lead a pinch to increase accuracy and improve performance on game. I have only found two of these bullets. All the deer and antelope that have been killed with them blow right through. The first one I found was in a cow elk. It crushed the shoulder and was found in the hip. This bullet is as much of a trophy to me as the horns. Maybe more.

Thanks everyone. The only thing better is if my son would have shot it. But he didn't draw this year. He is a great young man and shoots that Renegade better than I do.

Was this the farthest shot you have taken an animal with? One heck of a shot.

Yes this is my farthest shot. Before this I have never taken a first shot past 150 yards. Since going to my paper patched bullets I have never had to shoot an animal two times. Back when I was shooting Hornady bullets Shooting a deer a couple times was a regular thing. I had made 170 and 200 yard shots on deer with second shot. I despise factory bullets because they can't be trusted. My son and I practice out to 300 yards a lot.

Did you ever determine if the bull had an issue since you stated that it seemed to be acting strangely?

He had scratches on the front inside of his legs. They were not deep into the meat. Jacob is a nurse and he checked out the liver, heart, and kidneys. Nothing looked awkward to him. He has also seen a pile of animals on the ground and looked at organs a lot. We don't know know why the bull didn't just run out with the other one. That is a mystery.

Smart ones often let the others lead the way so they oppose any danger first.
