A couple of bucks on the hit list

Texas general archery season opens this weekend. If I’m lucky enough, I’ll get to run an arrow through one of these studs (if I’m lucky enough).

If not, I’ll have to wait till November and throw a chuck of Russian-engineered lead or maybe some buckshot at one.

    Let’s see y’all hit
    list bucks!

Well Texas has come a long way with their game management.
When I was at Randolph AFB in 1970 and hunted deer just north of Universal City the average buck was 95-110 lbs. never saw even a Fork on any deer we saw.

I missed one, but my Room Mate got him, and he was not quite a Fork, and weighed 105 lbs. field dressed. He BBQ'd up real nice and tender!

Those ones in your pics are pretty good looking Bucks Hope it works out for you. Should go nice with that stash of Pork you have!

How long is the archery season? A month? When I live in a state with an archery season, it was only a week before regular hunting season.

You can bowhunt here all year round even during season, however, it opens a month before deer hunting.

Naw. Deer management. Most counties have a 13” rule meaning you can’t shoot a buck unless the inside spread is greater than 13”.

Most hunters here try not to shoot young deer.

I remember back in the 80's Tx was getting bucks that the IDNR had trapped to sell or trade to TX to boost the gene pool. We also shipped thousands of turkeys to TX also.

Congrats ? Very nice deer there ! I am at the point where I have trouble dragging a deer that size for very far.
If I am hunting by myself I have to limit how far I hunt from where I can drive my truck to.
    Very nice deer !!
