    Lee 452-255 450 bushmaster

So I have a Ruger ranch rifle and 450 bushmaster and it shoots fantastic however I also have a 16 inch A.R. and 450 bushmaster as well I have finally worked up a load that shoots fairly decent out to 150 yards and I was wondering is there anything in North America that the Lee 452-255RF will not kill going 2200fps?

This is for kicks and giggles

    Maybe a large shed?

Inside of 150 yards I highly doubt it. That's basically 45-70.

Reads like a winner to me !! That velocity is above 45 Win Mag fps in a long Contender barrel which some folks have used to all sorts of big critters.
I would maybe think of a 260 grain or so for serious bear busting but what you have in a fast repeater would be plenty of firepower to repel boarders and such.

Apparently your load works fine from standard AR mags. Did you have to change followers ?

I could never get my 450BM American to feed cast, you lucky dog! My 450 BM gunsight scout has the same issue. I tried three different boolits and varied the lengths. I have the 255 lee mold but haven’t tried that one yet.

This is a 450 bushmaster mag that came with the AR and yes it has a 450 follower in it, I have never tried shooting a standard AR mag with it, I’ll try to today when I go to the range. I loaded up 100 rounds of this so I’m excited to shoot it some

Not the Ruger rifle but my Mossberg predator in 450BM won’t feed the large meplat CB’s. Had Tom at Accurate cut me a mold that throws the 45-280D and the 45-300J. These were cut without the GC heel and drop #2 alloy dead nuts at 0.451”. PC’d with Chevrolet orange and over a healthy dose of 2400 these feed and shoot perfectly out of the Mossberg. As this rifle with its wooden stock is quite light I have kept the measured velocities in the 1700fps range.Pleasent to shoot by my 12yo godson.

Pics are of the mold and the product of both designs. They are sitting in a modified Gen3 Pmag on top of a 3d printed follower as I also have used them in a MSR but fitted with PB checks from Sage and are being pushed with RL7 to 2150fps measured.

My MSR feeds the Lee large meplat CB’s well as well as the Noe 454-350 but I have not yet been able to get a satisfacory load using it, maybe too heavy to stabilize properly.

Ya dont even "NEED" that much power!!!

I shot the Lyman 457191 as a fun shooter in my Ruger too. I hunt with the Lyman 457192.

I have been REALLY enjoying another heavy cast with both Unique and Herco powders SUBSONIC. The bullet is 450g Lyman cast soft @ 20:1. 2" 100 yard accuracy using bottom post of reticule as aiming point. @ 1070 fps Im generating honest 1000FPE!! Should be a awesome close in deer hog thumper!! (Think archery distances!!)

CW i was beginning to think i was the only one that doesn't like HV with heavy bullets. I do admit i am very recoil shy. And my 450gr. bullets beat me up at anything over 1200fps. An i like them much better at 1100fps.
Even the lighter 240/300 gr bullets are betterer at 14/1500fps. An last years deer 25 yards 300gr. bullet 1400fps didn't have time to like or dislike my load.
Last year i started shooting the 452242. And i am hoping for good results from that bullet also.

I hunt with that Gould HP of 330g @ 1550 fps. That bullet is like a 1" ball exiting a deer!!!

    LOVE HEAVY SLOW!!

Idont mind the recoil, but if ya get good preformance with less recoil WHY NOT!!

Deer Hog thumper? I didn't know they cross bred where you are. I bet a doe/sow would be a lean bacon fatty. However, a buck/boar with antlers and tusks would make close in hunting more challenging. And, since swine breed all year long, basically rutting and rooting all year, the season would never close. Please send pictures of the these cross breed animals out your way!

Interested in how this boolit shoots at higher velocities. I have a bolt-action .45 ACP and believe I could get 1500 fps with a cast 255 boolit (got 1650 with cast 230 already). I tried using the forum search tool for the term "452-255-RF" and got no results, so obviously I'm doing something wrong.

I shoot a 45 acp loaded with a 255 or260 over 5 grains of red dot for around 900. You should get more out of a longer barrel.
