I picked up a crapload of old acid core solder some is 50/50 some 70/30 and 60/40 Is this lead to tin ratio? is the higher no. typically the lead? I'm gonna burn the acid out of it outside with my turkey cooker burner and my old smelter pot.
thanks

Tin / Lead ratio so 60/40 is Tin 60%- Lead 40%. Unless you have a large amount of 70/30 or 60/40 the end resulting alloy will be about 50/50. I've thought of using baking soda in a smelting bot to neutralize the acid. I have a 5gal bucket filled with different solders.
Plumbers must have used this stuff back in the day for house plumbing. now the solder is lead free.
Acid core isn’t just for plumbing. It can be used to solder copper, brass, steel or any metal that can be soldered except electronics.

So, typically the larger number is the tin content?
The first number should correspond with the first element; Tin-lead at 60-40 (60% tin-40%lead). Generally the base metal or the largest quantity (in this case tin) would be first, the lesser would be second. I don't know if there's a rule or standard format but this seems to be the most common way.
Warning: I know Judo. If you force me to prove it I'll shoot you.
For the last several years(all I'm aware of) solder has been specified as Tin(Sn)/Lead(Sb). For about the last 20 or so years, all solder I have seen uses this convention. I don't know about many years ago. Convention could have changed.
In looking up solders online, the only ones I found where the first number exceeded 63% was lead free. Most of the remaining alloy was silver.
