I’m 22 rifle poor. The newest one I have is Ruger 77/22, got new when first out. It is now my main serious hunting 22 with 4x. My nephew and my SIL both have Ruger American with 2x7 Nikons. They shoot as well as my 77/22 which is no slouch. It shoots into a dime at 40yds, squirrel sight in.
Now I herd some 10/22 bad mouthing. The original 10/22s were a lot better rifle than today’s. The plastic trigger housing and barrels on stock model guns aren’t up to old standards. The Marlin 60s are accurate as a rule but they leave a lot to be desired in their feed system. My Bro has a Savage bolt action that has threaded barrel and plastic stock. I think it was on sale for $299. I don’t like it bolt is gritty. It doesn’t have a bad trigger, not quite the rifle the Ruger American is. They are both ugly but Ruger is better shooter of the two.
