Is the soul of man eternal?

Is the soul of man eternal?

Does the spirit of a man live forever?

What does the Bible have to say on this subject?

    What do you think?

(In this context, the term "man" is used in the generic sense, i.e., "mankind".)

If therefore we yield up our temporal property, we at the same time deliver the conscience into bondage." --John Witherspoon, The Dominion of Providence Over the Passions of Men. 1776

    Caution on quoting Bible here
    Hebrews 5:11
(I think Priscilla wrote that line)

    It is my belief
    based on my reading
    the Word of God
    and Pastor's sermon:

    You are a soul
    You live in a body
    You have a spirit.

    Look up consciousness
See if you can define it better.
    Self-awareness?
    Do dogs have souls?
    Yes, Job 12.

    One soul, body, spirit.
    One time around.
What you do with it is up to you.
You might need the owner's manual.
    Eternity is a long time.

Been a long Sunday, God Bless.

I am not sure but if there is no hell and the soul is not saved then it is just gone.

Don't forget no heaven too. When you're dead, you're dead.

    Eternally dead: separated forever.
    No law but ourselves.
If it feels good do it.
Truth is what you want it to be.
    No reason to live.
    Nothing lasts.
    No joy.
    Is that all there is?
    Is that what you want?
    Is that what you need?
I tried to live like that.
    I saw the light.
    Then I read John 17.
    My Savior praying for me.
    Joy!

The answer depends on how one interprets the Bible's meaning of death.

We are Eternal Beings, just like God.
(That would be God the Creator for those who persist on that issue).
The soul that was not "saved" at physical death does not just go Poof and is gone.

Is there a Hell? What is Hell?
It depends on how you define what Hell is.
One could say that Hell is the absence of God in your life.
For those evil, terrible people that die, they do experience "hellish" nightmares in the Astral World for a time until they reincarnate back into the Material World.
From there, they will have opportunities to resolve their past "issues" such that they can then progress on their path back Home with God.
No one goes to Hell for eternity.

    That's Hindi.
I have a very good friend that is Hindi.
(My youngest works for a Hindi,
    taught him to make Tikka)
I be Baptist, he be Hindu.
    We get along fine,
I am not going to make him Baptist
He is not going to make me a Hindu
    We each believe
    in something very different.
I taught him how to drive in America.
    The first mile was prayerful...
I am never going to worship 300+
million gods, he is not going to cut
    loose his parents anytime soon.

"And if it seem evil unto you to serve the Lord, choose you this day whom you will serve...but as for me, and my house, we will serve the Lord". Amen.

Jesus taught there is hell and heaven. The rich man seemed to know hell and Lazarus the beggar knew heaven
Hell is to warn us that Jesus is the only way. A place of punishment only if you don’t get that. But I’m all for not breaking up families. Love says accept, love, it’s not over till it’s over.

God created the body out of the dust of the earth, breathed His spirit into it, and it became a living soul. That is the Old Testament version. When it was translated into the Greek the Greek tripartite concept was introduced into the text. The body returns to the Earth, the Spirit goes where it has chosen.

I think it lives forever not through its own or otherworldly devices but through the stories and memories of those we leave behind.

If that's correct then your "lives forever" will be quite brief. I'm now the oldest of my generation and I don't feel real good myself.

I remember my grandparents very well but I never met my great-grandparents nor have I heard any stories about them. So, if temporal memories are the controlling factor for their eternity, then my great-grandparents are truly dead; but I don't think that's true.

Look at Genesis 3:22 ; after the Fall of Adam; our Creator prevented he and Eve from access to the tree of life lest they eat and live forever. This was an act of kindness and both physical and spiritual in meaning. Jesus Christ promises eternal life to those born of God; and Jesus Christ is judge as to what man or woman receives this gift. Look at John 5 : 24
Men are mortal; both physically and in a spiritual sense. Only those born of God are given the gift of eternal life. Of course, unless a man is born for above , he is blind to all spiritual truth- John 3 : 3

Most men will scoff and laugh at the ones who have been born of the Spirit; others just try to ignore the thoughts of death and judgment. The laughing will stop very suddenly when these men step through the door that every man has to step through sooner or later.

Decreed by our Creator: The man who has been made able to believe and understand that Jesus Christ has been sent into this world by the Father has been born of the Spirit of God. This man shall never experience spiritual death. He will live forever!
