    Just scored some old coww!

I was at my feed mill today getting the next months order for the farm picked up and I donned on me... Judd also scraps as running an old run down feed mill doesn't pay much.
I asked him if he came across any lead, he said no sheet lead but I've got a box of old wheel weights.
He said they are only paying .30$ a lb. at the scrap yard. He let me take them for an extra 5$. I got 26lbs worth. They are mostly big 3 to 5 ounce, and I think all lead. They look pretty old so they may be pre steel and zinc.
How much usable material can I expect to get out of these, 20lbs, more, less???

Either way awesome score, I'm accruing quite a pile of boolit material all of a sudden.

My impression is that the extra weight of a heavier WW is mostly in the lead, so you're probably well over 20# of the good stuff.

If they are old and gray, cut pretty easy with diagonal cutters, or scratch without much effort--
They ain't Zinc. They're the old school ones ya want.

Don't waste 'em. they get harder and harder to find, and more expensive as time goes on.

The ones I have tested bend and will.snap at the clip fairly easy. Dont think there is much zinc if any.

Those big cigar ones are nice. My source dried up a long time ago. I think you may do better than 20 lbs.

I figure between 10 and 15% for the clips.

That was a good score. I hope you ask him to call you when he gets more lead. It could become a good source for you.

I told him to save me any lead that is not from batteries. These were all lead, no zinc or iron!
Got it all made into ingots, about ready to weigh and mark them.
Super easy to work with I fluxed them when the first batch started melting and just kept adding to it. I did not have to flux again, just left the old grease and paint ash sit on top after clip removal.
