    Ceramic media size

    oops on the title spelling.

I have been using round ceramic media for case cleaning. The size is .100X.300. In 45-70 its excellent. In 9mm, the 357 family, and bottleneck not so good. The cylinders get stuck in the case. Its OK if the inside isn't shiny bright. Extra time is needed to get the cylinders out.

I've seen 6mm balls, triangles, and cylinders with angled ends. What size media do you use?

I have no direct experience, only the following anecdote. At work there was a woman who worked in tumble, using ceramic media. The parts that got her canned were cylinders with an ID of +/-.375, with no steps or constrictions in the bore. Rather than take the time to pick out the media locked into the bore, she took a handful of parts and tossed them into a storage tank. I offer this as an example of what a PITA ceramic can be.

For straight wall rifle rounds like .45-70, from what I've been given to understand, ceramic is a wonderful thing. For anything smaller, straight wall or otherwise, you're taking your chances.

I've seen 2 colors of media. Green and white. I'm thinking the green is much more aggressive than the white and not suitable for brass. But maybe I got that backwards.
You have enemies? Good. That means you've stood up for something, sometime in your life.
