    Stapler

Any suggestions for a new range stapler?

Just had another one fail, a Stanley.
It wasn’t very powerful, couldn’t drive staples into wood very well for putting up cardboard backers, but was more comfortable to use. Adjustable and used at highest setting.
My other Stanley will drive staples into wood fine, but is uncomfortable to use, blows staples through paper targets half the time, and is hard on my wrists.
We all really liked the backwards ‘ergonomic’ staplers, but they all broke quickly, several different brands. If I could find a reliable one that worked good it would be my first choice, they really were easier to use.
I might be able to fix my current stapler, the body is opening up, but I need to find a tamper proof torx bit to try to tighten it up and I never really liked it even though it is my most used one.
So I will not shoot it yet, unlike some others that I was happy to put out of my misery.

Arrow powershot 8000 Pro Forward action. Bought one labeled as a craftsman 68515 about 18 years ago along with a T50 to insulate our garage which was under construction and our staple guns were in storage. T50 broke about 2 years ago and the powershot/craftsman is still trucking along. Figured it would be the other way around and as it turns out I like it better than a T50. You can drive many more staples before your hand gets tired. You're pushing on the same end that the staples come out of so it's easier to use as well.

Maybe the power shot changed or we got cheaper models, would have been in the 7-10 year ago timeframe.
That is the type we all loved, but broke easily.
Actually worse than broke, wore and started jamming more and more, really frustrating.
And when I started making sure I carried two staplers in my range bag.

We definitely had a craftsman or two and probably an arrow, maybe another brand of that style.
They really were a hand saver, once you got used to running backwards.

Just looked up the powershot, arrow 5700.
Reviews on Home Depot were almost half one star reviews, 506 out of 1300 reviews.
    Consensus- they break easily.

Arrow T50HS (same style) gets a 4.6 out of 5 out of 1000 reviews.
But is out of stock at Home Depot, where I found the reviews.
And gets lots of complaints from Amazon, but only out of 34 reviews.

I might take a chance and order one, but Amazon is out of stock too.

T-50 is all I have ever used for manual, haven't bought one in years so quality may have gone to the chinese.

edit; Amazon claims they are made in USA

Stanley/Arrow using T50 staples for me as well, though I don't drive into wood backers.

All my targets are stapled using 1/4 in staples to election sign material (or cardboard) then hung at the range.

I have a Harbor Freight hammer stapler that works pretty well, though the staples seem to be an odd size.

Arrow t50 , I've got 3 of them 1 in each range kit and 1 in the workshop. I won't say they are indestructible but the one I use most of the time had a .22 bounce into it and still works fine.

    .

I've been pleased with a target stapler (3/8" staples) similar to this one, for over 40years.

My stapler is a cheap one - a Stanley light duty "Sharpshooter". It uses JT21 staples. I shoot a good bit and usually buy two 1,000 packages of staples at a time, about three times a year. I would guess I get at least five or more years out of a stapler.

Funny you ask about staplers... was at the range yesterday and my Arrow T50 did nothing but jam and I was using Arrow T50 5/16” staples. It was so aggravating, I want to use it as a target!

Need to find a better stapler too.

I have several Arrow T-50s and a Craftsman that works backwards. It can also drive small brads. I have a couple smaller Arrows that will work fine for just target to backing. I only want to carry one so a T50 is in target box.

Arrow stapler with JT21 staples. Great for targets. The other arrow bit the dust about 20 years ago. Frank

It seems to me that the modern staplers, even though they are mostly plastic, don’t jam as much as the old all metal ones I used to have.
If you have both hands free, pushing down with your palm on the head of the stapler, gives a lot better penetration. I’ve used this method to make small staplers do more than they were meant for.

ID:	268287 We have two of these for attaching paper board targets for our USPSA league. It's expensive but is very easy and quick.

For me the duo fast 5000 has been the one . It just works what else can I say. I have tried a bunch over the years and the duo fast has been the most consistent.
