Will extra compression cause extra pressure?

The wife and I shot a BPCR gong match this weekend and she had one round hit her pretty hard.
I was on the scope and it did impact quite a bit higher than the rest in the string. The only difference
I can come up with is there might have been a .060 wad instead of the .030 used in all of the other rounds.
    45-70, 535 gr postell 20-1 63 gr. Olde Eynsford 2f.
    Thanks Mark

Probably had more to do with the position of the gun on her shoulder, or not as tight of a grip on the stock.
Long range rules, the rest drool.

Yes, we are looking into that and going through the mechanics again. It is hard to be a spotter and a coach at the same time.

Amount of compression ( when there is compression ) should not effect resulting pressure, so long as it is the same Powder Charge.

I agree with this but i believe it will change how fast it burns
    No compression = faster burn
    More compression = slower burn
Those who would trade freedom for safety deserves neither and will lose both

If the burn rate changed would that cause recoil to change?

Faster burns create quicker acceleration with overall lower velocities look at unique loaded to max pressure in a 300 mag then load it with rx25 to max pressure and youll get what im talking about. With that said blackpowder is a diffrent bird and cannot be compared to nitro powders as far as burn rates go. I do not believe your case to be compression related

With .030" more compression with the same powder load you won't feel the difference in the felt recoil. It's the way she controlled the rifle like Don said.

Don is quite right. Please check the position of the gun on her shoulder.

Moreover, if the shot was "higher", the pressure on the shoulder was a bit tighter.

I would review the firing position.

You are a very lucky man to have his wife shoot besides him !!

    Best regards.

One other thing that might be a factor is if her sticks were to high or low.
Long range rules, the rest drool.

Also her thumb and fingers were probably wrapped tight around the stock wrist instead of just laid up against the wrist. Natural recoil of the rifle not maintain will effect the point of impact

Pretty sure that is not so...

Burn rate of lightly compressed or heavily compressed charge would be the same, far as I know and have gathered, in so far as you can compress very hard, and it'll deliver the same FPS and Trajectory as light compression, assuming Powder charge is the same, and Bullet the same.

As to the high impact could she have been a little off the barrels node instead of on the sweet spot
