20 cent primers

I been looking at what people are actually selling primers for on gun broker. geez I could sell off 5 thousand and get a new Henry bbs, 1000pc brass from starline , a die set and a new mold from Miha with the money. I'm so tempted that its not even funny but snap back to reality and the uncertainty of the future and who the heck knows those primer prices could double in the next 6 months. it could be years till primer prices come back to reality.

Got that right, besides unless you have a hazmat license, you can't ship primers anyhow.

a friend of mine was "buying a guy out" who had a lot of stuff. he knew i wanted small pistol primers. asked the guy if he had any. i've got 5000 fed. 100s coming my way for $150.00. i feel a little gulity.

I think that paying normal retail for them should not leave you with guilty feelings. I typically pay $29.95 per thousand. I did pick up 1700 small pistol magnum primers at Sportsmans a couple of week ago for $2.39/100 and 1000 large pistol primers for 19.95.

I saw primers for sale on Craigslist for $125/1000 the other day. I'll stand at the firing line and yell "Bang!" before I pay that price to a gouger.

I paid $40 for 1k SRP just about the time everything started going kerflooey. I had to grit my teeth but I'm glad now that I did it. That was at an Academy store. Haven't been back since.

I got started reloading as the Sandy Hook run unfolded. I could simply not find powder and I tried hard. I ended up buying an 8 pound keg of Unique for $300. I knew I was paying gouge prices, but I wanted to learn to reload, I knew I could make a wide range of useful ammo with the stuff, and I knew that 8 pounds would last me quite a while. Would I buy at that price today? No, because I am well stocked. But I can tell you for sure that in 5 or 10 years if I am hurting for powder I would pay a similar premium over regular retail.

At times like this I am happy to also shoot muzzleloaders. They are lots of fun, easy to cast for, and if I shoot 50 rounds it is an awful lot. I bought the dies and priming materials to make at least 2000 caps out of soda can aluminum, so I can make them go bang for a long time. If I run out of powder I imagine I can find some sub or real black that will work somewhere, and the 54 even shoots really well with a measly 50 grains of 3F. I suppose I should save up and buy a nice flinter to further diversify, but the wallet only stretches so far and I had to make sure I had ammo and components for my newly acquired 350 legend.

I was in my local shop today and of course they had no primers. The salesman told me that they put out 8000 the night before (small pistol) and they were gone within an hour. As I was standing there, a salesgirl came up pushing a cart filled with SPP. I grabbed 5 boxes at about $4 per box.
I also bought 2 lbs of Goex BP and a few hundred #11 primers.

Everyone does realize that "price gouging" is the natural reaction of a well functioning free market economy right? If you want fixed prices you need outside interference from a socialist group. You should be writing the "price gougers" commending them for not being afraid of participating in a true free market price stabilization.

I normally pay about $40/1,000 for primers here & $36lb for powder. Not a primer to be found on a shelf anywhere within 250 miles. I know as we drove to Maine this past Saturday looking for powder & primers, bought the last brick of 209 primers and a few 1lb powders they had. My buddy drove out to Bass Pro in CT the week before to find the shelves bare as well. Saw a guy in Maine who also drove 5hrs from another part of NY looking for 00 buck rounds, he bought the last 5-6 they had. My LGS about a month ago got an order of 00 buck in Winchester 20ga 5pk 00 or slug $9.99. They also had 12ga 2 3/4" Hornady Critical Defense 00 buck 10pk $29.99. Federal 12ga 2 3/4" 00 buckshot 5pk $9.99.Remington 12ga 3" 00 Buck $14.99. The best bargain was the Federal 223Rem 300 round bucket $199.99. Yep the 22lr are about $70 a brick as well.

Here, a few thousand of each is almost always in stock at our local guy, and run right at $40. per 1,000.
If he's out of one kind, he usually gets a few thousand more in a couple days.

It's a bit higher than I'm used to, but live-able since I'm not feeding a Class III weapon.

Spare a thought for your 'down under' bros, $AU70 - $90 per 1000 for primers and $AU60 - $80 per lb for powder!

Explains why I shoot 95% cast boolits in little guns like 25/20 and 32/20! Very miserly cartridges that get over 1000 shots from a tin of powder.

I'd rather have the primers.

Comes right down to the sharp pointy end of the stick I have a big stash of Red Dot. But it takes primers to make em work. Guns I have, brass I have, COWW and range scrap I have. But if I have no primers, its all worthless. I'm well stocked and no interest in selling any. But I would not be unhappy if I had invested twice as much.

Primers are looking like a good long term investment just now. But then silver ain't looking too shabby either.
Not selling that either.

That will not be a popular view for many on this site...but I agree with you.

People who do not plan, whine way too much IMHO.

I have a lifetime supply of primers, powder and lead. Some of my "friends" laughed at me when I was building up my inventory. These same "friends" wanted me to sell them stuff at the prices I paid 10 or more years ago. I have helped my real friends and those less fortunate. I have no pity for guys driving around new trucks, and shooting $15k trap guns who are out of components....sucks to be stupid.

I am considering setting up a table at the local gun show to "gouge" the fools who are desperate. I did that during the last shortage and it was very profitable.

I don't have many primers, do have a fair amount of loaded ammo so I just put the revolver and rifles up and save what I have. I broke out the old Ithaca 37 12 gauge and my Trius One Step. I can buy all the shotshells I want and you know, shooting blue rock is a lot of fun also.

Yep. Worst comes to worst, I'll break the recurves back out, but last shortage I don't ever remember not seeing plenty of 20 and 12 gauge shells in Wal Mart.

what is sg ammo. the last loaded ammo I bought, besides 22's, was 2008 when I got a 308 marlin express got a case of ammo to go along with it only because brass was not readily available till a couple months later.
