    Best filler wad

Looking for a filler wad to put under Lee 1 oz slug. I want to space the slug to the bottom of the star crimp and make sure the wad doesn't get stuck in the key drive. What have you had good luck with? I'm thinking cork or good old fashion corrugated cardboard.

here's some pretty good load data for lee key drive slug
    https://www.ballisticproducts.com/load14_04_25.htm
as far as wad getting pressed into the key drive lee slug, I'm not so sure it really matters once that slug is out of the barrel headed for whatever you shot at. its not like a boat tail bullet resisting wind deflection at 500 yards.
ive always learned that shotshell load data is pretty specific its not like metallic reloading where you work up a load.

Not interested in loading from scratch right now. I'm converting light birdshot to slugs for bulk cheap slug loads. I'm dumping the bird shot and replacing it with a slug and recrimping. I just need a filler wad to bring the slug up back to the original height. There has been many people talking about the wad getting stuck in the key drive if there isn't some kind of buffer between them.

I use 1/8” card wads quite a bit for that type thing . Not with the Lee slug as I’ve never tried them . But with other slugs I’ve cast for various gauges .

I use the nitro card wads in 16 gauge, they fit the bottom of most wads and the base of the 7/8 oz lee slugs.

I ended up using some plastic foam board and a homemade punch. Works good!
