I’m in exactly the same boat. I love split pea soup.

boil a couple chicken parts with an onion, bunch of carrots and celery and a cup of dried split peas, little bit of salt and pepper. Simmer for a few hours till everything is mush, pull out chicken bones and skin, if it is still watery, keep simmering without lid till its reduced till the thickness you want.

I can't eat peas unless in chicken pot pie and not crazy about that but love pea soup. I put in a splash of liquid smoke.

I love Split Pea with Ham Soup. My wife won't touch it. On the other hand I get more of it. She loves it when I make Navy Bean with Ham Hocks soup she loves it though.

Just did a split pea soup in the crockpot yesterday and enjoyed a nice hot bowl by the fire when it was ready around 9pm.
    1lb package of split peas
    7 cups vegetable broth
~1lb cubed ham (frozen leftovers from the Easter ham)
    1 large white onion diced
Diced carrots and celery (not sure exact amount, but basically cut up enough until each pile of onion, carrots, and celery were about the same size--LOL)
    1/2tsp ground thyme
    1tsp Salt
    1tbsp black pepper
1 scotch bonnet pepper (I like some heat)

It was a very welcome meal after a long day of pepper gassing myself while making and canning/jarring hot sauces and pepper jellies.

I like to use smoked Turkey wings rather than ham. My ham doesn't seem to get tender. It getting into soup season.

Smoked Turkey Wings is good with most any recipe that calls for ham .
