Chinese Sks, how do it get the trigger guard freed up.

Been so long since I took my SKS apart for cleaning. There is what looks like a button located at the lower rear of the trigger guard. I believe its the release mechanism. But in which direction does one push the button?. Any assistance is greatly appreciated. Thanks, Frank

Forward towards the trigger guard. I always use the cleaning rod. The ones I've done have always been pretty stiff.

I take the top cover off and use it push in hard .

The safety must be in the off position and you have to smack the button good.

I do not recall having to take the safety off on any of mine , went and looked online as I am not home safety stays in safe position .

I use a center punch in the little dimple in the receiver hook thingy and tap it to the rear. . . Now that I think of it, to remove the action from the stock, I believe the bolt has to be locked to the rear.

You should have already removed bolt by the time you go for trigger assembly , though I have removed mine with bolt in , when I tried the after market 20 round mags and the detachable ones that I gave away as the 10 round original was as good and reliable as it got .

Texas by God , you are always a good read , I myself had to go check , funny how age gets to us bit by bit and I consider myself young , only feel old when I see just how young some people I work around are or they say what year they were born in , have a good day , and back on topic I have since my first SKS had a soft spot for them , only have a chinese rifle , paratrooper and a russian left out of ones I have bought .

SKS is one of the great designs. I don’t like the sights or the stock on them but with the original mag they are as reliable as a hammer. And decent shooters,too.

I actually like the stock on the SKS. Miss the one I had for years. I've owned 4, but the one I miss was a norinco before they marked them in English and a very good shooter. Other than a broken extractor and needing a sear/mag catch spring it was stone reliable.

Thanks for the info. Did watch the video and will disassemble the top end as it's been quite awhile since I've shot it. Then remove the trigger guard. Thanks again for the info and video link. Much appreciated. Frank
