It used to be that Ruger put nicer wood on the No.1 rifles. The newer ones I have bought just do not have as much figure in the wood as they did back in the day. I have the advantage of living just 30 miles from the Ruger plant where they are made and employee guns that had hand selected wood show up at the local gun shops on occasion. I picked this 270 Win up at my local shop back before the prices got too high.

I went the pistol caliber route and have a No. 1 red pad in .357 Magnum and a black pad in .44 Magnum. My friend has a red pad .300 H&H Magnum. I wouldn't mind having that one.

My brother has a Ruger #1 in .375 H&H Magnum. It will open your sinus up with 300 gr loads.

My wish would be a Ruger #1 in 30/40 Krag. It is always nice to be able to dream!

Always had a #1 in the stable since 1982, more recently have got caught up with 1885's also, as someone stated earlier they get under your skin and are addicting. My latest #1 in .257 Bob, just need to make the time to blood it.........

I picked this #1-S Medium Sporter in .338 Winchester Magnum to join my 1-B in 25/06 and my 1-H in 458 Winchester Magnum this past Thursday for $500.00.

I have kept an eye out for a #1 in a 257 Bob, or a 25-06. I have not made an obsession of it by any means. I saw a 257 bob locally come up for sale. The seller was online but he was 6 miles away. He started out saying that the gun was for sale at 1300. then after I started talking to him the price went to 1900.00! The gun by his own words was a 1.5" rifle on the best days.
I backed off and never talked to him again.
I need one like a hole in the head but I would take one if the price was right and the right caliber.

    Wish I had a 218 Bee in a #1
I stopped at Kittery Trading Post in south east Maine a while back to pick up a Parker and they had two Ruger #1's in 218 Bee in the rack. I could have bought both of them for the price of the Parker. I already had a Marlin 1894 in 218 Bee and I was tempted.

I am happy and proud to have my 3 No.1s, 7x57 RSI, 22” 45-70, and a difficult to find 22” in 475 Linebaugh.
All three are quite accurate, the 45-70 seems to be the most accurate.
The 475 is the newest and Im still working up loads with cast bullets.
The 45-70.....I just got the mold for it, a MP 462-420 both GC and PB
The 7x57 didnt seem to like cast but loves 100gr j HP, 160gr Speers, and 175gr Hornady RN

Have the same gun, use A1680 full case w/ 40 grain Hornady V-Max. Deadly on apples @ 75-100 yards. Instant cider.

They aren't common round here, but I've been thinking about it now for two weeks. I can see why they have a cult following.
Go back & check out the bore. If it looks good, buy it for $800. You will really enjoy the rifle especially in that classic deer caliber.

    You can thank me later!

I have a Ruger No. 1 in 44 magnum, haven't shot it yet and just picked up a Ruger No. 1 357 magnum. My order of 357 180 gr. coated cast boolists arrived yesterday. I can't wait to start working up some loads. I wonder if they will feed in my Henry side gate 357?

I would like one in 30-06. But a Winchester 70 Super Grade would be nice too.
