yep they're very nice looking rifle, I've a #1 stainless with laminate in 45-70, hoping to find a match someday in 38-55 just for kicks, but they' kinda rare around these parts.

38-55 is rare anywhere and $$$ if you find one. Almost had my hands on one, but the guy ahead of me, handling it at the gun show bought it and it was the only one the dealer had.
Love the #1. Bought my first one back in the mid 70's.

I was lucky recently and bought an excellent condition red pad 1979 No. 1 in .270 Win for $850 no tax on consignment here in Missouri. Beautiful wood, only wear on it was from a military leather sling attached fully taut and rubbed stock under the leather. Also came with a Hicks Accurizer installed and a Simmons 44 mag scope which I took off. I couldn't pass on that price.

I've seen precious few #1's out there, the last was a couple of years ago in a pawn shop... the price was OK... but I left the store for lunch thinking, "I don't need another rifle, especially one in 45-70, but the #1 had what only could have been a custom walnut stock or one hand selected at Ruger. I at lunch, went back to get it and it was gone

Years ago, I was a dedicated levergun collector. Savage 99's, Winchesters and a handful of Marlins filled my gun safes. Then I had the misfortune of handling and buying my first No. 1. In no time, many lever actions rolled out the door to finance my addiction. I have over 30 No. 1's now, specializing in very nice wood/eccentric chamberings. Whatever you do, do NOT start buying them! They will take your soul....

Saw my first one in 81. Was working my way through college at a small gun shop. Loved them. But way too pricey for my 4.50 an hour. Finally got two in 2012. Only took 39 years. Lol.

He wants my 1895 GBL so bad and offered a straight trade.
I don’t load for 300 Win so I’m on the fence.

I had a 7mm Mag #1B. I found the rifle overweight and not handy. It was in excellent shape, had the red pad and a good trigger. I carry my rifles and this one never got used. I don't spend time on ranges for the 'cool' factor so I have not bothered with the #1's since then. I do have a couple #3's that seem handy, NIB, just sitting on a shelf. Do not like that 'carbine' butt plate Ruger puts on so many rifles - Mini-14, 10-22, 96 Levers. . .

The number 1’s sure look great but I would be afraid of uglying it up in the briar thickets and such.
Never have had a safe queen, I need to shoot mine.

If that 1895 GBL is a JM Marlin, its worth more than the #1, in my opinion

A guy at the range last year had a new 458 #1, was all over the target. He wondered if it was the gun
or just him. Asked me to shoot it, I said SURE! Nice trigger, didn't kick that bad, lot of muzzle rise.

It was him. Anyway first time I got to shoot one. Good stuff.

Not the first one I seen but a guy offered me a no. 1 V in 7 mm Mag for a good price once and after thinking it over I thought it was to heavy and I didn’t have a use for a 7 Mag.
Here in OH we can use any caliber rifle for varmints but that’s just to much gun for anything we have.
